UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.UN Women MCO-Caribbean (MCO) covers 22 English and Dutch speaking countries and territories in the Caribbean. The MCO maintains a physical presence in several countries but there remains high and consistent demand for the exercise of UN Women’s integrated mandate across the 22 countries and territories.The MCO Caribbean 2022 -2026 programme builds on the works of the 2017-2021 Strategic Note with a focus on the Normative Framework (Proposed Outcome 1), Women’s Economic Empowerment (Proposed Outcomes 2 and 3), Ending Violence against Women and Girls (Proposed Outcome 4) and Climate Change and Disaster Risk Resilience (Proposed Outcome 5). All the Outcomes like the SDGs are interconnected and interrelated.Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UN Women MCO - Caribbean Representative, with direct supervision by the Planning and Coordination Specialist, Barbados and Eastern Caribbean, the Consultant will collaborate closely with relevant programme staff to write six briefs in preparation for the SIDS Gender Equality Forum.Scope of Work and Deliverables:Develop a workplan.Draft six policy briefs (no more than 5 pages each) on the following areas:

Gender Equality as an Accelerator to Revitalise SIDS EconomiesTransformative Actions to Enhance Environmental and Disaster ResilienceForging a Path to Empowerment, Equity, Inclusion, Peaceful Societies and Safe CommunitiesStrengthening Institutional and Statistical CapacityInclusive Health SolutionsInnovative Financing for Gender Equality

Integrate feedback from key stakeholders into six policy briefs.Support development of draft communique.Update policy briefs.Required Skills and Experience

Education:Master's degree (or equivalent) in international development, public administration, public policy, or other relevant social science field is preferred.A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience

may be accepted

in lieu of the advanced university degree.Experience:At least 15 years’ experience developing policy briefs is required.At least 10 years’ experience working on sustainable development and gender equality is preferred.At least 5 years’ experience in SIDS is required.At least 3 years’ experience with the UN is preferred.Languages:Fluency in oral and written English is required.Consultant’s Workplace and Official TravelThe consultancy will be home-based.The consultant will be engaged for a maximum of 40 working days within the period, 18 March 2024 to 31 July 2024.RemunerationThe consultancy fee will be negotiated before contracting.
