Mission & Authority

To directly oversee the operations of several departments which provide mission services and facilitate effective functioning of the entire operations segment of Young Life.

YoungLives CoordinatorSummary:The YoungLives coordinator serves, in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures established by mission leadership, to develop and sustain YoungLives ministries in the respective areas.

Essential Duties:

Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.

Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.

Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.

Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.

Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.

Ensure that all Young Life ministry in the area is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

Meet with mentors, childcare and other volunteer leaders on a regular basis.

Assist in recruiting and training mentors, childcare and other volunteers to build leadership teams that reflect the community.

Attend and be involved with area leadership as assigned.

Assist in training committee, mentors, childcare and other volunteers how to work effectively in teams.

Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to mentors, childcare and other volunteers.

Train and lead a team of mentors, childcare and other volunteers in developing a yearly ministry strategy.

Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.

Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.

Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.

Observe and learn principles to develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community, including: principals, pastors, parents, potential committee members and more as assigned by the area director.

Learn to plan and execute area fundraising events under the direction of an area supervisor.

Become a respected Young Life steward to the community for both kids and adults.

Partner with respective area director to build a sub-committee for YoungLives.

Regularly communicate and participate with the local Young Life committee.

Develop relationships with schools, teen parenting programs, crisis pregnancy centers and other applicable community organizations.

Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.

Lead a team to plan and implement a regular outreach meeting with excellence.

Lead Campaigners meetings with excellence as assigned by the area director.

Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for YoungLives.

Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.

Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, other Young Life camp or in another position each summer as directed by supervisor.

Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.

Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.

Ensure that YoungLives health and safety policies are followed.

Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency using the mission-wide applications.

Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.

Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.

Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid; review them on a regular basis.

Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs.

Accept both short and long-term assignments of projects.

Training:

Completion of at least two years as a Staff Associate.

Core Training — phase one to be completed as a Staff Associate.

Attend YoungLives trainings as directed by the YoungLives regional and/or divisional coordinator.

Participation in missionwide staff conference every four years.

Participation in additional training or experiences if deemed necessary (e.g., more urban exposure; Taking Donors Seriously (TDS) training).

Attend regional training as directed by the regional director.

Pursue continuing educational opportunities including graduate degrees.

Education:

College degree preferred.

Completion of training as determined by supervisor.

Job Specific Working Conditions:

Young Life in the Brunswicks (New Brunswick, NJ) is seeking an innovative, driven, and faithful individual to fulfill the role of a part-time YoungLives Coordinator.

YoungLives is Young Life’s outreach and ministry to parenting teenagers and their children. YoungLives clubs are regular gatherings with parenting teenagers and mentors with the support of childcare workers and various community help. Clubs meet around the world offering fun, laughter, encouragement and an inspirational message. Other YoungLives activities may include Bible study, group outings and life skill instruction.

In New Brunswick, this part-time coordinator would be working directly alongside our existing YoungLives coordinator and the Area Director in leading the largest YoungLives ministry in the Northeast, being responsible for helping steward the maintenance and growth of the existing ministry. While there is an existing club and ministry, it has grown at a rapid pace, creating a need for another individual who can work more closely with mentors and adult volunteers, and work with churches and ministry partners to ensure that Club goes off without a hitch.

This coordinator needs to be someone who has a mature faith, and a willingness to adopt leadership in multiple capacities, primarily mentors and volunteers, in addition to the teen moms themselves.

Responsibilities:

Ministry

Recruit, train, mobilize and retain mentors, childcare volunteers and other individuals supporting the ministry.

Foster direct ministry relationships with teen moms and their children.

Coordinator will mentor at least one, if not two to three, participant(s).

Supervise and evaluate volunteers in leadership development, spiritual formation and ministry with teen moms.

Meet regularly with the volunteer team for on-going training, ministry planning and community building.

Implement the 5 C's of Young Life

Contact Work - Continue to create a culture amongst the other mentors of going to where teen moms are to spend time with them regularly.

Club - Maintain and grow New Brunswick’s regular club.

Campaigners - Participate in on-going Bible study with teen moms and junior leaders.

Camp - Help lead logistics for Summer Camp, working with ministry partners to raise funds for teen moms to go to camp, and attend the week of summer camp.

Committee - Work alongside the area’s existing Committee, and have a watchful eye for recruiting the next individual or family who desires to make an impact with teen moms.

Financial Management + Donor Development:

Raise personal and ministry funds as determined by the supervisor, in a “missionary”-style funding model.

Participate in area fundraising events and opportunities, like a Banquet, recruiting players and business sponsors for the annual Golf Outing, and participating in the camp scholarship yard sale.

Administration:

Work in accordance with the Area Director, YoungLives Coordinator, and area administrator to ensure that area administrative tasks are handled with excellence and on time.

Community Outreach:

Speak to civic and church groups to promote and publicize YoungLives.

Develop relationships with schools, teen parenting programs, crisis pregnancy centers and other applicable community organizations.

Pay Transparency:

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is outlined below. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
