The Village is currently undertaking several long-term projects, including the demolition and redevelopment of Stratford Square Mall property, potential improvements and reuse of the Prairie Lakes hotel and golf course, and other exciting development projects that will help to shape the future of Bloomingdale.To assist with this growth, the Village is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Planner. The Assistant Planner is an entry-level professional role responsible for assisting the Director of Community and Economic Development in responding to public inquiries, processing development applications, and performing various administrative duties. Recent graduates or candidates with relevant education and experience of 0-2 years are encouraged to apply for this entry-level position.The starting salary is $27.89 per hour (approximate annual equivalent $58,011) to $30.29 per hour (approximate annual equivalent $63,003) DOQ. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and will include occasional meetings after regular business hours. The position is full-time and non-exempt for overtime calculations. Other duties may be required and assigned.Assists the Director with public inquiries via phone, email, and in-person interactions.Performs intake and processes development applications for the Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) and administrative level evaluations.Performs general office duties, including composing letters, updating policy manuals, and managing filing and archiving systems.Manages invoices and receipts, ensuring proper submission to accounts payable.Attends meetings, some of which may be after regular business hours.Prepares and presents staff reports and exhibits to the PZC.Evaluates various processes and proposals.Maintains communication with PZC members, confirms quorums for meetings, and provides updated correspondence.Provides public information regarding development regulations.Resolves citizen and customer issues.Observes safe work practices and maintains regular attendance.A bachelor’s degree in urban planning is preferred. Additional experience in architecture, landscape architecture, public policy, or a related field is a plus. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may also be considered.The successful candidate must possess knowledge of planning philosophies, practices, techniques, land use, and zoning. Proficiency in research, data collection, and effective writing techniques is also required, as well as competency with Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and GIS software.
