SUMMARY

Conduct environmental training programs with supervisory and employee groups. Study workplace environmental factors that may adversely affect employee safety and health. Evaluate results and make recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Perform administrative tasks (i.e., schedule meetings, updating environmental reports/graphs, filing paperwork, etc.). Work under general supervision. A moderate degree of creativity and latitude is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Takes direction from the Manager of E&S

Assist line and staff management to understand OSHA, EPA, EPD, sanitation regulations and standards.

Develop and maintain management information systems which identify the location of hazardous materials in all facilities.

Update and deliver employee training programs related to hazardous materials and waste.

Supervise work of outside contractors involved in removing or testing hazardous materials.

Investigate employee complaints concerning exposure to hazardous materials or air pollutants.

Maintain environmental operation and inspection logs.

Maintain water treatment log for monthly completion of OMR (Operation Monitoring Reporting) to GA EPD.

Submit clear and concise written reports based on field inspections.

Keep apprised of development in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company.

Assist in communicating hazards control information and evaluate effectiveness of the control.

Coordinate with regulatory agencies regarding hazardous materials.

Disseminate Haz-Com/Right-to-Know information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Conduct industrial hygiene testing including but not limited to: LIA (Lead in Air) and noise level monitoring including the associated COC (Chain of Custodies).

Draft reports with industrial hygiene results and present to supervisor. Interpret results in terms of potential impairment to health of employees and discuss impressions with supervisor.

Study work operations, details of nature of the work, materials and equipment used, products and by-products, and employee workforce profile.

Conduct supervisor and employee training and education in environmental procedures and policies.

Responsible for effective application of environmental policies and practices.

Investigate environmental spills and incidents.

Eliminate hazardous waste.

Assist with housekeeping inspections in the plant and take steps to correct non-conforming conditions with safety practices and regulations.

May interface with regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, EPA, EPD, City of Sandersville).

Follow ISO procedures and track environmental inspections and revisions for ISO compliance.

Type, log and screen all hazardous waste manifest. Complete annual State Manifest report and handle all hazardous waste shipments and associated paperwork in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Handle all requests for SDS’s and perform semi-annual chemical audits including revision to the chemical inventory and maintenance of the MSDS database. Based upon the semi-annual chemical audits complete and file annual Hazardous Material Business Plan (HMBP) with applicable regulatory agency.

Maintain safety and environmental files, permit books, and reference material.

Member of the emergency response team.

Assist with environmental compliance reports gathering info (i.e., Form R, Bi-annual emission reports, etc.).

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of state and government environmental regulations.

Ability to work independently in a highly professional manner.

Good organizational skills, meticulous and good public speaking skills, at ease moderating large groups.

Ability to understand and apply government regulations related to hazardous materials and waste.

Experience in inspecting for hazardous materials and understanding processes which can produce hazardous wastes and hazardous air pollutants.

Ability to deal effectively with people.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Must be able to function well in a multi-tasked environment, be self-motivated and open-minded.

Project management skills a must.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

3-5 years’ equivalent experience in related field.

Licensed in accordance with GA certification of water and wastewater treatment act. Level 2 or Level 3 required.

First aid/CPR/AED trained and must be willing to obtain continuing education and advanced certificates in the Environmental, Industrial Hygiene Field.
