Position Summary

The Director of Materials Management has a pivotal role within Empower Pharmacy, driving the efficiency and effectiveness of our supply chain and material management processes. This position plays a critical part in ensuring that our operations align with the company’s core values of people, service, quality, and innovation. The Director is responsible for the seamless execution of the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process, ensuring that the planning, procurement, and distribution of materials are conducted with precision and foresight to avoid any disruptions in production or customer deliveries.

This role also involves being the primary owner and Subject Matter Expert for our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system's supply chain modules. The Director will oversee the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of these systems to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the business. The ability to create and analyze business models using tools like Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and MiniTab is essential for providing actionable insights and driving continuous improvement across all material management activities.

In collaboration with senior leadership, the Director of Materials Management will contribute strategically to the long-term planning of Empower Pharmacy’s product portfolio, ensuring that our material management practices support the company’s growth objectives. This includes managing inventory, warehousing, and distribution processes to minimize costs and enhance efficiency, while also implementing waste tracking and inventory cycle counts to maintain elevated levels of accuracy and operational excellence.

Join us in expanding access to quality, affordable medication by applying your expertise in materials management to this dynamic and influential role.Essential FunctionsResponsible for the effectiveness of the weekly/monthly S&OP process, ensuring there is a continuous improvement approach to enhancing the planning through engagement and accuracy.Ensures there are no raw material outages (within band of control), ensuring service levels are maintained so that there are no production or customer shipping delays throughout the year.Responsible owner in the ERP implementation for the supply chain modules. Following launch, this position serves as the item expert owner, internal Subject Matter Expert, and responsible owner of the ERP solution.Able to create and illustrate business models via Microsoft Excel, Power BI, MiniTab, and other technology platforms when data is not readily presentable to demonstrate and evaluate business needs.Serves as a tactical partner to other business leaders in the S&OP process to ensure 6-months planning is set and demonstrates measured improvement quarter over quarter.Acts as a key strategic advisor to the Vice President of Supply Chain and other senior executives, playing an integral role in shaping Empower Pharmacy’s product portfolio for the next 3, 5, and 10 years.Creates, implements, and manages waste tracking, ensuring business leaders are well informed of root causes and are provided with corrective and preventative countermeasures resulting in reduced waste costs quarter over quarter.Works with other warehouse and logistics leaders to ensure efficient material management.Responsible partner for capacity planning for each site, ensuring there is space for materials based on storage conditions, flow, in coordination with expert-site-planning and site utilization.Responsible owner of any and all inventory management solutions at the company.Works with IT and other business partners to consolidate materials management platforms to the ERP and other supported business solutions.Oversees the management of a standalone warehouse that operates independently from core functions like pharmacy operations and manufacturing.Collaborates with leadership across operations, aligning efforts with manufacturing, research and development, and supply chain for product development.Manages inventory, warehousing, and distribution to meet company goals and minimize costs.Creates, implements, and maintains an inventory cycle count for all sites, ensuring an accuracy of 95%+ for common items (indirect materials) and 99%+ for critical/high value items (direct materials and finished goods).Coordinates with finance for inventory management, including physical reconciliations, to meet internal audit requirements.Implements Kanban systems for material replenishment, aligning with production plans.Ensures smooth logistics for material transport between company facilities, suppliers, and customers.Participates in Lean/Six Sigma projects for continuous process and quality improvement.Builds a team to be able to take care of business needs and assists in leading the areas whenever a subordinate leader is not present.Performs other duties as assigned.Experience and QualificationsBachelor’s degree in operations, Supply Chain, Business, or related field, or in the life sciences.Minimum of 15 years of experience in an operations environment (planning, warehousing, and distribution functions).Minimum 10 years previous leadership experience required.Minimum of 5 years of previous leadership experience in managing S&OP in a manufacturing environment (preferably Pharmaceutical).Experience within a Food and Drug Administration regulated, pharma manufacturing environment.Experience in managing warehouse functions, including large-scale facilities.Experience with managing Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances and materials requiring different environmental solutions.Experience in implementing a cloud-based ERP such as Oracle Fusion or similar systems, particularly in inventory, manufacturing and Material Requirements Planning modules.Experience in risk management, identifying and mitigating supply chain and inventory risks.Knowledge and SkillsVersatile supply chain management skills with the ability to serve as a key backup.Expertise in leading S&OP meetings and providing accurate forecasts.Expertise in creating reports through Microsoft Excel.Proficiency in creating reports through analytics tools such as Power BI, MiniTab, etc.Proven ability to optimize production capacity and streamline manufacturing processes.Skilled in inventory planning, warehousing, and distribution strategy, with a focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness.Knowledge of ERP systems with concentration on Inventory, Planning, Purchasing, and Manufacturing modules.Ability to drive continuous improvement, lead strategic sourcing
