Remote home office environment or located in our headquarters in Scarborough, Maine. The work environment also includes frequent travel to customer labs.

Travel Requirements:Expected travel is approximately 50%, consisting of: FlowCam demonstrations, conferences, workshops, visits to headquarters, etc.

Job Overview:We are seeking a customer-focused, scientifically trained professional to become the newest member of our dynamic Sales team! The Marine Aquatic Sales Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert on FlowCam as it relates to plankton monitoring & research and will have the privilege of engaging with current and prospective FlowCam users from around the world who are using FlowCam to help answer fascinating and diverse questions relating to the microbial world and the impact it has on ecology, climate, public health, sustainability, and more.

The Marine Aquatic Sales Specialist will leverage their knowledge and experience to have meaningful, authentic conversations with current and prospective FlowCam users about their research and monitoring needs and whether FlowCam is the solution for them. This role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with valued customers while simultaneously seeking new customers.

In any given month, the Marine Aquatic Sales Specialist will play a key role in a variety of activities such as: engaging with new contacts who visit our website, attending and presenting at scientific conferences, visiting current and prospective customers in their labs, and sharing findings from the field with other members of the Sales, Marketing and Engineering teams that will help improve the user experience.

The Marine Aquatics Sales Specialist reports to our Global Sales Director and is responsible for achieving or exceeding the sales target for North America. Their market includes marine research and monitoring as well as aquaculture and microalgae cultivation applications. The territory will be North America, but there will also be opportunities to interact periodically with international customers and distributors as well.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about aquatic science and technology. While sales acumen is a plus, we first and foremost seek someone with relevant scientific experience to connect meaningfully with our community: we will train the right person in business and sales through mentorship from seasoned, technical sales professionals. We seek someone who will operate with the highest level of integrity and who believes they can help us achieve our goal of being the trusted partner in flow imaging microscopy for the life sciences.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Be a subject matter expert on the value of FlowCam and software for aquatic applications.

Meet or exceed sales targets by managing the full sales cycle including lead generation and nurturing, prospect engagement, quote generation, closing, and follow-up.

Demonstrate instrument operation and software features to educate prospective customers via virtual and on-site demonstrations, conference exhibitions, and workshops.

Work closely with the Sales & Marketing departments to provide insight on effective sales and marketing tools and content to help grow the business sustainably.

Work closely with our Analytical Lab team to coordinate sample analyses for FlowCam evaluation by prospective customers.

Interface with our Customer Service team to provide a seamless experience for new and existing customers.

Maintain strong relationships with existing customers and cultivate new customer relationships while delivering exceptional customer service.

Maintain a focus on continuous improvement within all sales processes.

Maintain a high level of integrity.

Travel as needed for sales meetings, sales training, and conferences.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a life science field such as marine science, aquatic science, or environmental science.

Preferred: Master's or PhD related to biological oceanography, plankton ecology or relevant work experience in an academic, state, or private lab.

Experience and Technical Requirements:

In addition to the above education requirements, we prefer someone with at least 2-5 years experience in a customer-facing, science-based technical role. This could include (but is not limited to) teaching or customer service experience in a scientific field.

Technical aptitude to learn and operate scientific instrumentation and software: prior experience with FlowCam or other plankton imaging instrumentation is desirable; no prior experience using FlowCam is required (we will train the right person).

Knowledge of phytoplankton and/or zooplankton ecology in aquatic environments. Experience in marine or plankton culturing systems is preferred, but we also encourage those with similar experiences in freshwater ecosystems to apply.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Knowledge and appreciation for solution-selling processes.

Experience with CRM tools (e.g. Salesforce) is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves working in and moving around an office environment (either remote or at our headquarters), diverse lab environments, and frequent travel by air, car, etc.

It involves substantial communication with customers, team members, partners, and others. On occasion, work outside of regular business hours may be required.

With or without reasonable accommodation, the successful candidate should be able to:

Use telecommunication tools (e.g. Microsoft tools including Outlook and Teams) effectively.

Lift a FlowCam (up to 50 lbs) from a box to a benchtop, and vice versa.

Work comfortably in customer sites including analytical laboratory settings.
