Central Utility Plant Shift Supervisor

to oversee a team responsible for operating and maintaining

electrical generation, steam production , and related equipment. The shift supervisor ensures safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant operations of all plant systems, including combustion turbine generators, boilers, and chillers. Additionally, this role provides training and direction to operators, ensuring critical campus operations and utility budget

energy savings.Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:Apply regulatory requirements daily and

ensure compliance

with federal, state, local, and organizational safety and health policies and procedures.Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all applicable codes and methods for installing, operating, constructing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and tools.Manage the operations of five central utility plants, including electrical generation, steam production, and hot water and chilled water production, while touring assigned plants to monitor safe operation,

identify safety hazards , and oversee equipment through DDC control systems, visual inspections, and plant walk-throughs.Coordinate daily work schedules of shift personnel, review and correct log entries for accuracy and trends,

report incidents and near misses , and review monthly timesheets with employees before Plant Supervisor approval.Determine the order of operation for all assigned equipment, considering operational differences, system demand,

efficiency , maintenance, and repair cycles.Coordinate new equipment installations, manage equipment loss or

capacity reduction , troubleshoot and coordinate necessary repairs, and participate in trainings and start-up testing.Coordinate with Water Treatment Technician to address water treatment issues and perform

water quality tests .Conduct electrical peak shaving

as directed by the Operations Supervisor to minimize on-peak demand charges and transition to alternate fuels as required to prevent non-compliance charges.Other Responsibilities:Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalency and four years of experience in applicable utility operations, of which one year is supervisory; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Maintains required certification(s).Other Required Qualifications:Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.Experience with combustion gas turbines/cogeneration.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in steam production (natural gas/fuel oil fire tube and water tube boilers up to 100kpph).Experience in chilled water production (electric driven/turbine driven up to 2000 tons).Experience in a central plant environment.Required License or Certification:A valid driver’s license is required.North Carolina Drivers’ License required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.Recruitment Dates and Special Instructions:Job Open Date: 07/30/2024Earliest Close Date: 08/06/2024Notice to Applicants:
