JOB DESCRIPTION

The Michael Baker New Jersey Operations has open positions for a Transportation Planner in the Transportation Planning and Conceptual Design Department. Successful candidates will join a collaboration of experienced planners, engineers, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective planning. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve. The Planner will support project senior planners, project managers, and engineers on multi-disciplinary planning and concept level engineering projects and will be responsible for the preparation of planning documents for federal, state, and local government clients, as well as private sector clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing multimodal transportation planning support in one or more of the following modes: surface transportation, public transportation, bicycle and pedestrian, ports and waterways, rail freight, and aviation.

Conducting analytical research on transportation policy and public transportation programs and issues.

Working closely with county and local governments to promote community and economic development through comprehensive plans, redevelopment strategies, master plans, and related urban and rural planning initiatives.

Conducting data research to prepare community profiles on land use, socioeconomic trends, housing and real estate market conditions, and related topics.

Developing and maintaining project databases utilizing MS Excel, MS Access, and MS SQL server.

Preparing technical reports, plans, and studies. This includes developing associated graphics, templates, and maps.

Serving as a community engagement specialist to promote planning efforts and solicit public input.

Conducting field work as required.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Four-year degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related discipline.

1-5 years of progressive transportation planning or experience with related projects.

Able to obtain AICP, PP or other related professional certification or licensure, preferred or on-track to obtain within 2 years of hire date.

Experience preparing written materials, such as formal studies, plans, and/or grant applications.

Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects.

Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, Google Sketchup, and ESRI ArcGIS. Hand or computer-generated graphic skills such as creating displays, project boards, maps, and other graphics that help communicate planning ideas and concepts.

Ability to accommodate moderate travel with a valid driver’s license.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $77,365 to $111,714. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
