Provide day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area.Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.Gives individualized customer service/patient care.Provides teaching specific to the patient's health care problem.Standards and Accountability

Responsible for participation in the completion of probationary/annual performance evaluations for all staff members.Direct observation of staff performance at regular intervals.Addresses areas of concern on an individual basis and at staff meetings.Collaboration with physicians and other clinical disciplines as appropriate.Reports issues/trends to Service Leader/Service Executive.Monitors staff's practice of Standard Precautions, aseptic and sterile technique, and sharps disposal.Is familiar with and ensures nursing protocols, clinical practices, and standards of care are instituted unit specific.Use Evidence Based Practice to promote quality outcomes.Leading

Coach staff on the integration of patient safety into daily work (patient identification, high alert medications, medication reconciliation, time out).Maintains appropriate staffing for adequate coverage and census variation.Posts hours to be filled in conjunction with Service Leader/Service Executive.Participates in interviews and hiring of new staff members in conjunction with the Service Leader/Service Executive.Responsible for staff employee relations including disciplinary action and terminations.Maintains positive work environment.Is a role model.Encourages teamwork.Provides rewards and recognition to promote staff acknowledgement.Assures that operations are managed efficiently while maintaining quality

Assist in establishing and operating within annual area budget.Identifies supply and equipment utilization problems and ensures appropriate interventions.Monitors outcomes and documentation of patient response to interventions.Assures professional development of staff

Coordinate with Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Nurse Educator for in-services, workshops and other Continuing Education Unit offerings.Promote professional development for all staff.Facilitate staff meetings.Monitors completion of annual reviews, Basic Life Support and RN licensure, and other requirements.Establishes and maintains a Performance Improvement (PI) program which monitors important aspects of care

Monitors patient satisfaction surveys and establish action plans as needed.Establish and monitor PI initiatives.Monitors on an ongoing basis environmental safety issues and appropriate interventions taken; e.g., refrigerator check, and code blue cart check.Provides input into the development and revision of policies and procedures.Assures completion of appropriate report form for any risk (e.g., variance report, patient concern report, maintenance request).Communicates with appropriate personnel regarding unresolved issues.Conducts random interviews with patients and staff.Monitors the handling of calls and response times.Schedule:

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required by December 31, 2020.Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.Experience

Requires 5 or more years of experience.License/Certifications

Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirements required.Neonatal resuscitation (NRP) within six months of hire required.Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred.

From National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.

Certification in high-risk neonatal nursing (RNC-NIC) from NCC within 1 year of eligibility preferred.Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Knowledge of specific clinical/technical area(s).Interpersonal relationship skills to interact in a sensitive way in delicate and/or complex situations, to lead teams and to make effective presentations to colleagues and other constituencies.Physical Requirements
