Job Summary

Primarily inspect contractor construction activity to ensure compliance with the project plans and specifications. The ideal candidate should have a broad technical and practical knowledge of construction methods and practices. The Engineer/Inspector will work closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to ensure that all contract requirements for safety, quality, schedule and cost are met.Other responsibilities include:

Examine and interpret construction plans, specifications and standardsCollect engineering data, sample construction materials and perform testingInspect non-structural construction operationsAssist in contract change order (CCO) preparation, review and analysisAssist in review and enforcement of Storm Water Pollution Prevention PlanEstimate and calculate construction bid item quantities for progress paymentAssist in review of contractor submittals including work plans and shop drawingsAssist in review and enforcement of temporary traffic control submittals and systemsProvide oversight of activities related to encroachment permits and utility relocationsParticipate in constructability reviews and value analysis studiesPerform labor compliance interviewsPerform daily field inspections and produce daily reports, logs and as-built recordsPerform basic construction survey to confirm layout.Assist in compliance with safety and health requirementsMonitor construction activities in compliance with permit and regulatory requirements.Minimum Qualifications

B.S. Civil degree or equivalentMinimum of five years’ experience in roadway construction inspection of highways or public works projectsPreferred Qualifications
