ABOUT MADISON SCHOOL & COMMUNITY RECREATION

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) serves a community of 230,000 in Madison, WI, with 75 full time and 2200+ seasonal staff members. MSCR offers a full range of recreation programs and services utilizing school facilities, parks, and other community facilities. Programs include fitness, aquatics, adult and youth sports, after school child care, summer camps, outdoor adventure, middle school youth resource centers, arts, and sports camps. MSCR is a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District, providing public recreation and after school programming for the Madison community since 1926.

Hours:

Monday-Friday, 40 hrs/week between 9:00am - 6:30pm, some evenings and weekends as assigned by supervisor or dictated by program needs.

Pay Rate:

full time hourly with benefits

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to manage, promote and supervise year round K-12 programs in a safe and enriching environment and provide assistance to the MNC Director with management and operations of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center.

Primary Functions/Expectations:

Develop, implement and supervise K-12 after school and summer programs, and evening youth and family enrichment programs at the Meadowood Neighborhood Center.

Serve as the on-site supervisor for youth programs at the Meadowood Neighborhood Center.

Establish physically and emotionally safe program environments. Ensure compliance with State, City and District quality standards.

Serve as a liaison between MSCR, school personnel, community members, parents and community agencies.

Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate seasonal staff and volunteers.

Develop work schedules for staff, collect timesheets, submit and approve payroll.

Work with the center director, school principal, community members, parents and participants to assess needs, resolve problems and concerns.

Purchase supplies, monitor expenditures and manage program level budgets.

Develop, distribute, collect and process participant registration forms.

Track participation statistics, maintain necessary records and submit reports based on site-based reporting requirements.

Work with community agencies in collaborative partnerships to maximize resources and bring community resources into the center.

Attend MSCR staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Schedule, plan and facilitate youth program staff meetings.

Assist Center Director in planning and maintaining a schedule of programs and facility use.

Provide MNC building coverage, as assigned.

Assist with development and implementation of special events.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma and at least two years of post high school education in recreation, education, community organizing, volunteer coordination, related field or equivalent experience.

At least two years of experience in developing, managing, leading, and evaluating community youth recreation programs, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and youth recreation program planning knowledge, and experience.

Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff, customers, and community organizations.

Proven leadership abilities and effective problem-solving skills.

Commitment to teamwork, partnership, and positive relationship building.

Desired Qualifications

Experienced in positive youth development.

Proficiency with Google applications, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.

First Aid and/or CPR certification.

Bi-lingual in Spanish - Desired.

Required Skills and Abilities

Experience working with racially, linguistically, and economically diverse communities, students, and staff.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to perform when confronted with emergency, unusual and/or crisis situations.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with racially and culturally diverse participants, staff, parents, school staff and with the community.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to stoop, climb, balance and crouch.

Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.

Ability to determine characteristics, similarities and differences between colors and sounds of job-related objects, tasks and materials.

Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as computer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier.
