The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia is seeking an Assistant Director of Events and Operations.The Assistant Director will play a very visible role in supporting the Batten School mission by enabling effective event planning through appropriate processes, technologies, and resources as well as directly supporting school-wide major event planning and execution. In addition, this role will lead a team of staff and students that support daily building operations including general helpdesk support, meeting/event space setup, general space and move-in planning, coordinating with central Facility Management resources to plan and coordinate maintenance and physical space upgrade projects, and coordinating safety/emergency response activities.The Assistant Director of Events and Operations will report to the Director of Finance and Business Services. This is an in-person only opportunity on the University of Virginia grounds in Charlottesville, VA.Event-related responsibilities include:

Engage the Dean's office, executive staff, faculty, school partners, and others within the broader UVA Community to develop and manage a major events program for the school.Conceptualize, implement, assess, and continually improve event management policies, procedures, technologies, vendors, and other resources to enhance event outcomes for the school and participants' experiences.Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with University departments, vendors, and event management partners.Advise on and resolve sensitive issues and requests, consulting leaders as necessary to resolve issues with staff or visitors.Anticipate requirements and deadlines for event units and ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.Coordinate with the Marcom Team on event promotion and oversee the inbound and outbound event registration effort for all major events.In partnership with the School's Technology office, develop, implement, and manage all event planning and event support systems.Report on event effectiveness in meeting school and department goals.Be available as necessary outside of typical working hours to support Dean's Office and major school events.Ensure Batten School events are compliant with relevant university policies.Operations-related responsibilities include:

Lead the operations team to ensure a comfortable, safe, and productive physical environment for the Batten Community.Work with the Director of Finance and Business Services and others on optimal space allocation and plan and direct move-in activities to minimize operating disruptions.Coordinate with university Facility Management on all space maintenance and renovation projects.Manage building services budget and track facility and furniture asset inventory.Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, local, and university regulations and policies.Engage as appropriate with university resources and train Batten employees on emergency response and continuity of operations planning.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degreeFour years of direct event management experienceAdditional experience may be considered in lieu of degreePreferred Qualifications:At least two years of supervisory/team management experienceCMP or equivalent professional event certification highly preferred, PMP is a plusExperience with Trumba, Eventbrite, Cvent or equivalent event systems highly preferredPolitically astute and able to effectively navigate demanding partnerships and event guestsExperience managing physical spaces, venues, and/or buildingsDemonstrated ability to develop and manage event and facility budgetsDemonstrated evidence-based orientation to use event data and participant feedback to report on event outcomes and improve service levelsExperience in higher education, non-profit, or public service organizations a plusStart date is negotiable.
