POSITION SUMMARY:

The Career Experiential Learning Coordinator will play a pivotal role in enhancing career-aligned learning opportunities under the University’s Title V A3 Avanzamos HSI grant. This role focuses on increasing access to experiential learning for all students, including immigrant and undocumented students, through initiatives such as career fairs, employer and organization engagements, on- and off-campus events, micro-internships, job shadowing, entrepreneurship opportunities, contract work, fellowships, and internships. The Coordinator will collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to coach undergraduate students and facilitate their engagement with employer partners and experiential learning opportunities.

This is a grant-funded position (100 %) through the Title V A3 Avanzamos HSI Grant through September 2027.

Each grant year is contingent upon renewed funding by the Department of Education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify and secure accessible internship opportunities for all students.

Provide career coaching for all undergraduate students, including immigrant and undocumented students, on various experiential learning opportunities such as career fairs, employer engagements, on- and off-campus events, micro-internships, job shadowing, entrepreneurship, contract work, fellowships, and internships, tailored to their academic programs, career interests, professional licensure, and employment eligibility requirements.

Collaborate with the Career Programs team to expand and enhance career experiential learning opportunities that address the diverse needs of the student population.

Guide students in navigating independent contract work and worker cooperative opportunities, partnering with campus programs and stakeholders like the Entrepreneurship Program and Expert and Executive in Residence career mentors.

Coordinate, support, and promote on- and off-campus experiential learning events through platforms such as Handshake and other university resources.

Support the requirements of the Title V A3 grant and provide relevant reports to the Office of HSI.

Partner with the Center for Cultural Liberation to offer career experiential learning support for undocumented and DACA students.

Ensure proper completion of all necessary paperwork and understanding of learning outcomes by students and employers/opportunity hosts.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

One to three years of experience in career advising and experiential learning.

Experience working with employers/opportunity hosts, and with helping undergraduate students to understand professional opportunities and professional licensure requirements in Illinois and the region.

Experience supporting college students including DACA, undocumented, and international students with career experiential learning, including micro-internships/job shadowing, entrepreneurship, fellowships, internships, and career fairs and searches.

Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication.

Strong time management and organization skills.

Ability to work effectively with university administrators and faculty.

Ability to work some nights and weekends.

Experience working and communicating with underrepresented groups.

Ability to design and lead presentations and workshops for groups of key stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Proficiency in MS Office programs and student database systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience building and maintaining relationships with local and national experts on immigration, such as TheDream.US and the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration.

Proficiency in career service software and knowledge of Handshake.

Physical Demands:

Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Salary and FLSA Status:

Salary: $48,000 - $52,000 annually

FLSA Status: Exempt, 37.5 hours
