Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.Primary ResponsibilitiesEstablish and grow the Texas Gulf Coast | Louisiana Archaeology Team under the direction of the South Central Cultural Resources Business Class Leader.Serve as Principal Investigator and/or Project Archaeologist for cultural resources investigations ensuring compliance with Antiquities Code of Texas, National Historic Preservation Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other applicable federal, state, and municipal regulations.Write project proposals and develop project cost estimates.Serve as primary author on cultural resource technical reports.Work with multi-disciplinary teams in our transportation, water, power, industrial, and oil and gas sectors in the South Central region and nationally to help plan, staff, and execute major CRM efforts.Work under the direction of the South Central Cultural Resources Business Class Leader as part of a regional team of archaeologists and collaborate with existing CRM team leaders responsible for managing archaeological surveys and site documentation, including feature and artifact identification and analyses; performing shovel test pits (STPs); site descriptions; photographs; and mapping.Must possess the technical knowledge to supervise archaeological field technicians and crew chiefs in field and office settings.Must be able to manage the production of professional quality reports for NRHP and NEPA compliance.Peer review draft reports and desktop background reviews produced by Project Archaeologists and other Principal Investigators before final content review.Perform other duties as needed.Required QualificationsMaster’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and a minimum of five years’ experience.Must have experience identifying and recording pre-contact and historic resources.Must have experience conducting testing, data recovery, and curation activities.Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).Must also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn, and execute new tasks.Will be required to submit both a writing sample and verifiable references.Physical RequirementsMust be able to record cultural resources in the field without any physical assistance (this could include hiking short distances in scrub and native vegetation).Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance.Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts.Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.Be able to operate a vehicle day or night.Approximately 25% travel required.Preferred QualificationsTechnical specialization in one or more of the following: geoarchaeology, remote sensing, lithic analysis, historic materials analysis, and/or cemetery investigations.Experience managing archaeological teams comprised of project archaeologists and field crew chiefs.Network of regional/national technical experts required for Phase II testing, Phase III mitigation and analyses.National Historic Preservation Act - Section 106 coordination management.Why HDRAt HDR, we know work isn't only about who you work for it's also about what you do and how you do it.
