ECO Posted On October 1, 2021The Maine Department of Marine Resources is seeking a full time Marine Resources Specialist Il in the Bureau of Marine Science, Biological Monitoring and Assessment Division.JOB DESCRIPTION:This is a field and technical position based out of Boothbay Harbor and will be responsible for field work coast-wide in the scallop and lobster programs as well as data entry, data management, and maintenance of field and lab equipment.This position assists the Scallop Program on dredge surveys, sometimes acting as the lead field sampler. Specific duties also include data collection on commercial fishing boats for the lobster At-Sea Sampling Program and Ventless Trap Survey with associated data entry and data checking from those trips. This position will work about seven months per year in the lobster program and five months in the scallop program with overlap. The Specialist II will conduct 6-8 at-sea sampling trips per month during the peak lobster field season (May-Nov). The position will assist with scallop surveys and complete limited lobster sampling trips from early winter to spring (Dec-April). The position will assist other programs when available and as needed (i.e. Urchin Port Sampling, Inshore Trawl Survey). This position will be responsible for the data transfer and maintenance of field computers. The position requires interacting with commercial fishers and the public. Work is performed under general supervision.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Five (5) years of experience and/or education in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data to include a minimum of one year of experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work.Experience with the commercial fishing industry; SCUBA diving certification; familiarity with MS Access, ArcGIS and R; comfort with computer hardware and relational databases are desirable. Additional qualities must include strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills; a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time with high attention to detail; the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision; willingness to travel.APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY : October 13, 2021BENEFITS:The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include: $14.60 for dental insurance; 13.16% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee’s annual pay, at least 85% ($412.23) of health insurance premiums.LOCATION : W.
