Responsibilities:The FP&A Manager reports directly to the Director, School of Medicine Finance and will supervise 2 Sr. Financial Analysts. The position serves as the Dean’s Office FP&A partner to multiple Departments varying in size and complexity and will be responsible for delivering FP&A services that will enable their departmental business partners and SOM leadership to make timely decisions and achieve desired financial results.

The position will play a key role in the SOM’s annual budgeting process, financial quarterly forecast, financial plan variance analysis and special projects. S/he will analyze and summarize actual vs plan reporting and explain the underlying drivers. S/he will provide financial consulting and strategic support to the SOM departments and the senior leadership team. S/he will identify and propose process improvements and participate in reporting enhancements. S/he will independently and effectively manage the relationships with the SOM departments and other stakeholders, to ensure a collaborative inter-departmental working environment. S/he provides training to Department Managers and Finance managers on best practices, budget and forecast management and analysis.

This position will also focus on analyses from a school-wide perspective and play an essential role in most aspects of SOM’s financial planning and reporting such as developing reports due to Campus and managing the rolling forecasting and long-range financial planning processes. S/he will support the quarterly reporting publication that summarizes SOM’s financial performance and key performance indicators.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical ability, financial acumen, technical skills and experience in preparing financial reports and analyzing financial performance. This position will require the ability to balance priorities, often shifting priorities, in a challenging and complex environment. S/he will be reliable team player, have a sense of initiative and eagerness to learn and have strong communication skills. Lastly, s/he should have a strong commitment to SOM’s multiple missions.

Required:

Demonstrated experience in financial analysis.

Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Demonstrated skill to work independently to analyze situations, interpret data, define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, and formulate logical conclusions.

Experience using Excel to input and organize data, analyze data, and create accurate and informative tables, charts, graphs, and reports.

Ability to read and write in the English language.

Ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of constituencies including faculty, administrators, staff, students, and vendors.

Skill to organize tasks, prioritize, and complete assignments when faced with heavy and diversified workload, deadlines, and demanding requests for service in an environment of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual and a team member to achieve the goals of the School.

Demonstrated experience working as a member of a team, being willing to offer services and respond to requests for assistance under appropriate circumstances.

Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional working relationships.

Knowledge of accounting theory and university fund accounting.

Experience with UC or UC Irvine enterprise systems, including but not limited to Kuali Financial System, Cognos Decision Support, and Campus Billing System Online.

Experience processing financial journals, recharge transactions, and budget transfers.

Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

3-5 years of experience with BA/BS, or equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

Experience with University of California or University of California, Irvine policies and procedures.

Knowledge of federal regulations governing research activity, including Uniform Guidance.

Professional certification preferred.
