About the Role
Doma Technology seeks a savvy, motivated, and organizationally effective legal associate who is hungry to help power rapid growth of the company’s transformative technology and service offering within the company’s risk appetite.
The Legal Associate will have a unique opportunity to see the impact of their contributions across the full spectrum of company matters at a fast-growing technology startup. Doma Technology has an only-of-its-kind risk decisioning algorithm that we license to partners, paired with a settlement services offering we contract to lenders. The Legal Associate will spend significant time protecting the company’s interests through contracting and intellectual property matters.
The Legal Associate will report to the General Counsel and will collaborate to support the legal function across all company matters including labor and employment, corporate litigation, office leases and subleases, corporate governance and licensing, insurance, and other matters that may arise.
This is a highly dynamic role, where the legal issues crossing your desk every day will be numerous, interesting, and develop both your existing competencies and new knowledge. This is a highly collaborative role, where you will work directly with executive leadership, outside counsel, and commercial partners.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibility for:
Contract review and renewal management
Corporate insurance matters
Privacy matters
Support General Counsel with a wide scope of corporate matters including:
Labor and employment
Corporate litigation
Intellectual property
Office leases and subleases
Work with compliance team on:
Corporate governance activities
Company licensing activities
Legal and legislative research in support of the company’s innovation agenda
Company policies and procedures
Engage and coordinate with outside counsel as needed, while minimizing expenses
Work Location: Hybrid, 2-3 days per week in our San Francisco office

Required Skills & Experience
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
1-2 years of experience (in-house counsel or law firm)
Preferred 2-4 years of experience
Admission to practice in at least one state, preferably California
Ability to provide accurate, relevant, timely, and clear advice to General Counsel and business partners
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Obsessive attention to detail and very high commitment to accuracy, thoroughness, and polish of work
Sound judgment and the ability to source and evaluate various potential courses of action fairly
A self-starter who can work well collaboratively, deliver on commitments, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Organizational effectiveness: you readily perceive how to get things done in a variety of business settings, and can independently function to achieve objectives while preserving strong relationships and influence
Integrity, openness and transparency
Humility and service: consultative and supportive approach to partnership
Willingness and ability to learn Doma Technology business, including the basics of the product line; regulatory environment; basics of analytic and software development and deployment; end-user applications of products and services
Strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office products
Bonus points: Familiarity with the business of title insurance or settlement agency responsibilities and regulation
