POSITION SUMMARY

The Accountant will play a crucial role in the financial health of our school. This position will be responsible for a wide range of accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with relevant regulations. The Accountant reports to the One City Schools Finance Director.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESGeneral Duties: Perform daily accounting activities to meet deadlines and guidelines in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and FASB Accounting Standards; assist in documenting and implementing accounting policies and procedures.Accounts Receivable: Maintain daily cash receipt records utilizing various internal and external reporting for proper coding, tracking and designation of funds. Maintain and update accounts receivable records by identifying and posting new AR invoices and payments. Coordinate with the fundraising department to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of grants and gifts.Accounts Payable: Oversee the accounts payable processes to ensure vendor payments are timely, coded accurately and documented. Manage online purchasing accounts and staff credit card account maintenance. Coordinate with program departments to ensure appropriate expense coding for restricted grant and gift spending.Accounting Cycle: Manage the complete accounting cycle, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial closings.Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to provide insights into the school's financial performance.Grant Management: Perform grant accounting, ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions and timely reporting to funders.Budgeting: Assist in the development and maintenance of annual budgets, tracking expenditures against budget allocations and providing variance analysis.Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including supporting the completion of the IRS Form 990.Internal Controls: Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard school assets and ensure financial accuracy.Audits: Provide support and analyses as required in connection with annual financial audit.LEADERSHIP QUALITIES

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or FinanceMinimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in education or non-profit settingsStrong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)Excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalExperience with grant accounting, nonprofit accounting, and/or fund accountingKnowledge of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction financial regulations and Federal Uniform Grant GuidelinesExperience working in a school environmentWHAT WE OFFER: COMPENSATION AND EVALUATION

Established in 2014, One City Schools, Inc. is a nonprofit school management organization based in Madison, Wisconsin that operates high quality preschools and public charter 4K - 12 schools in Wisconsin. One City's mission is to seed a new model of public education that ensures children and teens are on track to succeed in a college or career preparatory program from birth through high school graduation. One City Preschool (OCP) is an accredited, award-winning, tuition-based early childhood learning center operated by One City Schools, Inc. that serves children ages 3 months through 4 years. We facilitate and support your child's early learning, development, and wellness within a play-based learning environment, which leads to their success and a joy for learning in grade school and beyond. OCP is accredited by the City of Madison (WI) Child Care Division and recognized as a 5-Star (out of 5) childcare program by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. Note: OCP also operates a preschool serving infants and one-year-olds, but these age levels are currently only available to the staff of One City Schools.

One City Elementary School (OCES) is a tuition-free public charter school in Madison, Wisconsin, dedicated to preparing children in grades 4K to 5 to have a positive and sustainable impact on the world. Established in 2018 by One City Schools, OCPA fosters a deep love of learning, community, and strong character within its students.
