TITLE: Security Officer

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Security Leader (Lieutenant)

Position Summary

Responsible for the safety and security of all people and property in and around facilities. The Security Officer will make periodic checks of the properties to ensure the safety and security of all persons and properties. The Security Officer is always aware of his or her surroundings, watching for any type of illegal occurrences, fire, or other hazardous occurrences. Responds to emergency situations to assist parties in need.

Essential FunctionsProtects, serves and assists the patients, staff and guests of TBHMonitors hospital property to maintain a safe and secure environment and takes appropriate actions to resolve problemsInvestigates incidents, accidents or complaints on hospital property. Completes the necessary logs and reports accurately and in a timely mannerConducts general safety inspections of buildings and grounds and visual inspections of life safety equipment including fire doors, extinguishers and emergency lightingParticipates in Emergency Preparedness Code drills scheduled and facilitated by the Emergency Management SpecialistResponds to designated emergency codesProvide escorts to and from helipad during emergent air transfersCompetent user of the access control, badging and camera systemsAdministers BAT (breath alcohol tests) and/or UDS (urine drug screening) as neededOperates detecting devices and performs searches to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areasWarns persons of rule infractions or violations and evicts violators from premises, using force when reasonableProvides personnel assistance and first aid to others such as co-workers and guestsDemonstrates responsibility for continued for professional growth competence and developmentParticipates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends required training and staff meetingsPerforms other duties as assigned by the Security Leader (Lieutenant) and/or Director of Quality and Risk ManagementPosition Requirements

High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Prior security, military or law enforcement experience preferredHave IAHSS (International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security) Basic Certification upon hire or obtain certification within six months of hire with re-certification every 5 yearsHave FEMA certifications in ICS100, 200, 700 upon hire or obtain them within six months of hireObtain BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) and DOT PSC (Professional Specimen Collector) certifications within three months of hire with re-certification every 5 yearsHave BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association Healthcare Provider upon hire or obtain within three months of hire with re-certification every 2 yearsObtain non-violent crisis intervention certification upon hire within six months of hireReceive training on Use of Force to include; handcuffing, turtle shield, and defensive tactics training within six months of hireMust possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under The Bellevue Hospital's auto policy. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.Must have a mobile phone and reliable transportationKnowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people and propertyExcellent problem solving skills.
