THE VACANCY:This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams.

There is currently one vacancy located at Costa Mesa High School (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year).

The eligible list for this recruitment will remain active for six (6) months and will be utilized for future openings that may occur during the life of the list.

BASIC FUNCTION:Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, patrol and monitor an assigned District school campus and/or property to maintain order, safety and security; assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations; oversee and monitor the safety and protection of students, personnel, equipment and property; conduct, oversee and collect information for investigations; enforce school rules and student disciplinary policy; escort and direct authorized visitors and students to various school campus destinations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Valid First Aid/CPR certificate within first six months of employment.Valid California class C driver's license.Completion of State and District mandated training, as required.Some positions may require the ability to speak, read or write in a designated second language.Examination Procedures And Information

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.

The virtual written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 21st. The virtual qualifications appraisal interview (oral exam) is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 28th. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Patrol and monitor an assigned District school campus and/or property to maintain order, safety and security; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent areas; provide protective services to persons and property by monitoring and patrolling the school campus to prevent altercations or campus disorders and disruptions including vandalism, thefts and illegal activities; identify and prevent situational conflicts between student groups and individuals according to established guidelines and intervene as necessary.

Assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations; advise students regarding school rules and disciplinary policy to correct negative behaviors on campus; advise students of consequences of violation of rules; report inappropriate behavior and/or violations to school administrators.

Oversee and monitor the safety and protection of students, personnel, equipment and property; enforce school and District rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff and property.

Retrieve and recover of student's property (lost and found) items left unattended on campus; transport unattended items to school office; document items and aid in the identification and recovery process; retrieve electronic device property; record confiscated device information into log; communicate with students and/or parents to return property.

Conduct, oversee and collect information for investigations; enforce school rules and student disciplinary policy; report inappropriate behavior and/or violations to school administrators; assist in the apprehension and detaining of suspects for police department when criminal activity is reported; provide information to police in matters of illegal student activity; work collaboratively with school site personnel and outside law enforcement agencies.

Escort and direct authorized visitors and students to various school campus destinations; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; provide general information and direction; monitor gates, entry walls, and exit check points to address and respond to unauthorized persons attempting to enter campus; escort students to office for disciplinary action or ill/injured students to health office as necessary; retrieve students as requested by administrators and/or staff; locate and contact students who are truant and/or loitering on campus and escort them back to class or and administrators office and/or administrator's office.

Unlock and lock gates, doors, lockers and school facilities as directed.

Monitor and observe student behavior and activity during passing periods and lunchtime; assure students arrive to class in a timely manner; assure students have proper permission slips outside of classrooms during instruction periods.

Respond to classroom calls of disturbance, behavior problems or related situations; respond to calls for safety assistance in special needs classrooms with students exhibiting disruptive behavior and disciplinary problems and diffuse behavior according to established procedures ad District policies.

Respond to other District facilities and provide safety support as requested.

Monitor campus for illegal activity; monitor backpacks, cars, and clothing as assigned; conduct student property and locker searches and related confiscation activities as directed according to established procedures and District policies.

Prevent illegal parking and loitering on school grounds according to established procedures; check vehicles for appropriate parking stickers; assist students with locker, bicycle, vehicle problems and locker maintenance as needed; monitor traffic flow at school sites to reduce congestion and assure safety.

Oversee student detention sessions after school; complete proper documents and forms; counsel students and others concerning violations of rules and regulations.

Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff and community and adhere to the diversity of each campus; communicate with students and staff to provide and receive information regarding school activities; communicate to students, parents or others in a designated second language as assigned by the position.

Communicate with students, administrators, faculty and staff concerning student behavior and assigned activities; report incidents involving students, personnel and the public to appropriate staff or administrator.

Collaborate with school administrators during emergency incidents on campus as necessary; perform tardy sweeps and participate in emergency lockdown drills; report safety, sanitary, fire hazards and maintenance and repair needs to appropriate authority; administer basic first aid to students and staff as necessary.

Utilize and respond to calls on a two-way radio to communicate with school office and other security personnel; drive a vehicle to conduct work as assigned.Maintain routine records related to student misconduct, accidents, safety/security expenditures and assigned activities; prepare incident and observation reports; serve as a witness in student conferences, disciplinary hearings/proceedings as appropriate.

Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.

Supervise students during special or after school events; assure student safety during school site construction projects as needed.

Maintain school site video camera surveillance as directed; maintain photo library of tagging and vandalism incidents and student tracking systems.

Participate in school safety presentations to students, staff and community as requested.

May collaborate with staff in conducting welfare checks, home visits and providing guidance to students as directed.

VACATION - HOLIDAYS - ILLNESS

Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month assignments. The number of paid holidays per year varies from twelve (12) to fourteen (14) days depending on the work calendar. Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.

RETIREMENT

All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security. If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security. Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for PERS retirement.

HEALTH & WELFARE

The District offers a comprehensive health benefits program for employees who work twenty (20) hours or more per week. This includes medical, vision, dental insurance plans and life insurance for employees. For full-time employees the District pays the employee's health, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums with an employee contribution required for some plans. For part-time employees plans are available on a prorated basis. Dependent coverage is available.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

The District encourages employees to pursue professional growth. Professional growth points shall be earned by employee participation while in non-paid status in activities which are employment related. Professional growth points are awarded annually and accumulate at $20 per approved Professional Growth Point and/or tuition and textbook reimbursement up to $500 is also available - limited to one per year.
