Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes, titrate per ordered parametersCommon titratable &/or set rate drips Cardizem, amiodarone, procainamide, dopamine,dobutamine, heparin, insulin (rarely)Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse takes full patient assignment.nursing supervisor here 24/7Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes, 1:15Hospitalist or Intensivist in house BothRT in ICU 24/7 RT available hospital-wide 24/7RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) No vents, No continuous BiPap, Cpap, AirvoAre there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? Monitor techs are not on the unit, but there aremonitors in the nurses’ station and in some rooms. RNs are not required toread their own strips. All interpretation and documentationis completed by the tech. Monitors are Nihon Koden.Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Position is night shift only or rotating day and night.6:45 – 7:15. Unit does self-scheduling via a schedulingcommittee. Blocked scheduling is open for discussion.Weekend Requirements Averages to every other weekend.Holiday Requirements Travel RNs will be added to the holiday rotation alongwith permanent staffIs there a call or standby requirement? NoFloating Requirements Float firstScrub Color/Dress Code Navy Blue, no artificial nailsUnit/Department specific orientation 12-hour shift with a preceptor.Additional Notes IV therapy team does all IV sticks.
