The City of Hemet is currently accepting applications for a Senior Planner. There is currently one (1) vacancy in Community Development.The Senior Planner, under limited supervision, coordinates and conducts general and specialized planning projects in support of a comprehensive long-range General Plan for the physical development of the City. The Senior Planner plans, organizes, and coordinates planning projects of area-specific or Citywide scope such as environmental planning, code revision, review and ordinance implementation, and residential, commercial, industrial, and community planning.Conduct special studies on land use, area development, and census; gather, compile, and analyze data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use. Monitor and implement the City's General Plan; review General Plan elements; recommend changes; monitor and participate in preparing revisions to the Plan; administer zoning ordinance and applicable City codes; review proposed changes to zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations; analyze available data and make recommendations.Prepare or supervise the preparation of comprehensive reports for presentation before boards, commissions, and/or City Council; lead staff participation in meetings and public hearings. Provide work direction, training, and assistance as needed.KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of modern urban planning principles and practices.Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, codes, and guidelines governing urban planning.Knowledge of General Plan requirements, preparation, and implementation methods and techniques.Knowledge of zoning principles and practices.Knowledge of zoning administration and development review.SKILLS

Skill in interpreting and applying local, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.Skill in using design review aids such as land use maps, zoning maps, and charts.Skill in organizing and participating in public hearings.Skill in conducting research and preparing clear, concise, and comprehensive reports.Skill in understanding and applying regulations, procedures, and guidelines.Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other City employees and the public.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in urban planning, municipal planning, or a related field and three (3) years progressively responsible professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five (5) years experience is highly desirable.CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.American Institute for Certified Planners (AICP) certification is desirable.WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and close to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.Environment:

Standard office setting with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may travel from site to site, interact with upset customers, interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.Selection Process:
