Newly entering employees should expect to enter at the minimum to midrange level, and not the cap which is for employees with tenure and above level skill sets in that position.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Manages the store activities within an assigned area, including responsibility for store operations and sales. Monitors area sales, in-store processing, stock levels, and coordinates shipments with transportation. Monitors customer service and provides training to all store personnel as needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Vice President of Donated Goods Retail. Coordinates activities between the Operations Department and the retail stores. Latitude for independent decision-making within assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Will supervise store managers within assigned area and indirectly supervise retail staff in assigned area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with Vice President of Donated Goods Retail and Directors to develop new sales strategies to increase revenue.

Monitors in-store processing and gives direction and training to managers and store employees on processing procedures.

Makes on-site inspections of retail stores to ensure that department and company policies are being followed.

Develops supervisory and decision-making skills of Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, and Leads.

Conducts training to increase positive customer relations.

Researches sales programs, prices, displays, and merchandise standards of other similar businesses.

Reports results and makes recommendations on improvements to the Vice President of Donated Goods Retail and Directors.

Maintains the store maintenance and housekeeping standards through the effective utilization of mobile janitorial crew.

Maintains daily contact with all stores, reviewing prior day’s sales and looking for opportunities for improvement.

Maintains work schedule on a rotating basis for one full workday out of every four Saturdays.

Conducts monthly store tour assessments at assigned stores.

Meets and exceeds revenue and expense goals as contained in the approved budget and evaluates variances from plan and develops recommendations.

Communicates regularly with managers and supervisors at the main facility on trailer requirements, customer service issues, etc.

Makes recommendations regarding pricing and stocking.

Spot-checks pricing for accuracy.

Ensures proper rotation of goods according to the rotation schedule.

Develops annual sales budget for stores in area of responsibility.

Remains up to date on local retail market by comparative shopping at other thrift stores and low market retail stores.

Orders supplies or requests services as needed for reports, building maintenance, cleanliness, and other operations.

Manages the human resources and physical assets within area of responsibility by effectively and efficiently planning, organizing, prioritizing, problem solving, leading, motivating, coaching, training, and disciplining.

Drives on company business as required.

Is on-call (accessible) as required.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

Safeguards company property, including donated goods.

Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property.

Acts safely at all times, following all safety rules and regulations.

Follows all company policies and procedures.

Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork.

Assists and shares knowledge and information with other employees as needed.

Uses good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, sensitivity, politeness, and thoughtfulness.

Works with, trains, and/or acts as a good example for program participants receiving training at Goodwill.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and/or work experience.

Five years of experience in retail sales including supervision, training, merchandising presentation and procurement methods, and inventory controls.

Three years supervisory experience.

Experience with multiple store locations preferred.

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Ability to accept responsibility, take initiative, problem-solve, and exercise good judgment.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Effective writing skills.

PC experience with Word and Excel or similar software.

Valid California driver’s license, liability insurance, and a DMV record which is acceptable to Goodwill’s insurance company.
