Position Title:Assistant Program Director for Nursing (Administrative Position)

Reports to:Program Director

Qualifications/Skills:Master’s Degree in NursingCurrent PA RN licensePrevious experience in nursing practice, nursing education, and educational administration

Responsibilities:

Functions as director in his/her absenceServes as resource for new facultyOversees SPE process and Nursing Curriculum CommitteePerforms other duties as assigned by Nursing Program DirectorServes as a role model for professional behaviorServes as a Clinical/Lab instructor, as assignedPrepares instructional materials for assigned course(s) using approved Harcum College and Nursing Program templatesDistributes materials to students and posts on Canvas in a timely fashionFacilitates student learning using a variety of effective teaching/educational strategiesIncorporates current knowledge, research, and other evidence into all instructional packagesEvaluates student learning/achievement of course outcomes using a variety of methodsComposes examinations according to policyDemonstrates competence in the use of current and emerging educational and nursing clinical technologyIdentifies students in need of assistance in learning or remediation and makes appropriate referralsAdvises assigned students on academic issues and assists students to meet learning outcomes

Service:

Participates in the Nursing Faculty Organization meetingsServes on Harcum College committeesParticipates in community and nursing activitiesOverall responsibility for the Nursing ProgramChair of Nursing Faculty OrganizationPoint of contact with ACEN and PA State Board of NursingAdministration of nursing program budgetFaculty recruitmentFaculty and staff evaluationsCourse schedulesCollaborates with other faculty in developing course materialsUtilizes effective communication skills to impart knowledge and provide support through counselingPlans, organizes, and executes instructionAssesses student needs and progress in both theory and/or clinical practiceUtilizes various teaching methodologies to facilitate the teaching/learning process among traditional and adult learnersFunctions as a role model for studentsProvides academic advisement and counseling for studentsEvaluates courses regarding content and teaching methodologiesMaintains current knowledge of subject areaAssumes responsibility for personal and continuing education and developmental needs

Leadership:

Provides leadership to the faculty in planning and implementing the curriculumActively participates in College-wide committeesServes as Director of the Nursing Faculty OrganizationPlans course schedules and faculty teaching assignmentsPursues contracts with cooperating agenciesPlans and administers the Nursing Program BudgetDirects the implementation of admissions and nursing program policiesInterviews and makes recommendations for new faculty and staff positionsServes as a resource for faculty, students, and the community when indicatedFosters effective public relationsActively participates in professional associationsParticipates in recruiting activities for the College and the nursing program
