Summary of Position

The

Transcriptionist II

is responsible for transcribing patient information into laboratory information system (LIS), confidential medical reports, and other data by pathologists and other healthcare providers to document laboratory data and interpretations.

Key Job Elements

•Transcribes all relevant report types according to designated priority.•Maintains and researches current terminology and professional style; refers to glossaries and other reference materials, as necessary.•Directs report destination (e.g., print, fax, transmit, upload) of transcribed report according to established policy.•Operates standard office and dictation equipment; operates hardware and software necessary to facilitate recovery procedures.•Assists in various administrative tasks.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience

•High School diploma or equivalent required.•The Medical Transcriptionist must be able to type 50 wpm.•3+ years' work experience in medical transcription.•Requires knowledge of medical terminology in different areas of specialty, especially those related to Dermatology, GI, GU and hematopathology.•Ability to operate word processing equipment, transcription equipment, and other equipment, as necessary.•Ability to decipher various forms of handwriting and read client requests and enter them into the LIS.•Ability to collaborate with various departments to resolve patient and client issues.•Excellent skills in English usage (grammar, punctuation, and spelling).•Demonstrate skills and high level of attention to detail in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.•Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.•Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.•Manual dexterity.•Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.•Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.•Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
