Statement of Duties : Position is responsible for skilled manual work at the journeyman level in connection with Parks and Forestry projects; does related work as required

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.Operates light duty to heavy-duty equipment (depending on class of operators license) for snow removalPaints and makes minor repairs to Town owned equipment and buildingsPerforms tasks normally assigned to a laborerInstalls park and playground equipment and sets up hockey rinks; maintains park areas, playgrounds and skating rinksAssists the Forestry dept. with operationsPerforms miscellaneous manual tasks requiring the highest degree of skill in the maintenance and care of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgroundsPerforms grounds maintenance duties: plants, seeds, rakes, fertilizes and grades, cuts, waters and trims fields and park areas

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Work requires high school graduation or equivalent plus two years experience in the same or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform the essential functions of this position.

Special Requirements:

MA Drivers License

Knowledge, Abilities and Skill : Must have a comprehensive experience in construction or maintenance work or any equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform the essential functions of this position. Must have general knowledge of the methods, techniques, procedures, equipment and materials relating to various systems construction and maintenance tasks. Must have mechanical aptitude to operate various types of equipment that would be found in flood and sewer stations as well as other public works systems.
