Position Summary:

The Data Warehouse Developer is responsible for supporting the data warehouse and analytics ecosystems for Rice University. Under limited direction, develops and maintains data engineering code and pipelines for loading into the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Data Lakehouse. The work of the Data Warehouse Developer includes data integration, data management, and analytics. Executes all programming tasks, including programming, analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, modifying, and maintaining computer programs.

Workplace Requirements

This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Proposed Hiring Range:

Expected minimum salary of $90,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.

Skills:

Mastery in business intelligence and data warehousing concepts and methodologiesExcellent programming, relational database skills, including expertise knowledge of SQL and PL / SQLProficiency in designing complex ETL's extracting data through XML files, RDBMS, REST APIs, and flat file sourcesExcellent programming skills such as Python, R, C/C++, Java, Shell and PerlFamiliarity with cloud data platforms such as SnowflakeExpert level in databases, data acquisition, ETL strategies, tools and technologies such as Informatica (IICS)Ability to work well independently or as a team memberAbility to collaborate with vendors and system service providers, provide administration for system solutions, and act as a liaisonHigh proficiency to analyze and solve problems of complex scope independently

Preferences:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.Experience with higher education data systems and processes.Familiarity with cloud-based data warehousing solutions (e.g., AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, Microsoft Azure).Knowledge in multiple existing and next generation data engineering and pipeline toolsProficient with designing and building systems for collecting, storing, and analyzing data at scaleProficiency in data modeling and designing data warehouse from heterogeneous sourcesProficient with implementing systems and processes to monitor data qualityKnowledge of Tableau or comparable analytics toolsProficient in data mining, visualization, and machine learning skillsUnderstanding of predictive modeling, NLP, and machine learningExcellent organizational and time-management skills.Essential Functions:

Designs and deploys complex data table structures, forms, reports, and queries.Coordinates and works with other technical staff to develop a data warehouse and data lakehouse.Collaborates closely with internal and external teams to understand and apply changes/modifications impacting the data warehouseIdentifies inefficiencies in current databases and investigates solutionsDiagnoses and resolves database access and performance issuesPlans and coordinates data migrations between systemsDevelops, implements, and maintains change control and testing processes for modifications to databasesDevelops and maintains the data pipelines and codeEnsures all database systems meet business and performance requirementsProduces ad-hoc queries and develops reports to support business needsCreates and maintains technical documentationDevelops and maintains Data WarehouseMonitors ETL processes, system audits, analytics platform, dashboard reporting, and presentation layer functioning and performancePerforms and provides results in quality control testingOversees the release cycle process and ensures timely implementation of bug fixes, change requests, and enhancementsPerforms all other duties as assigned
