Tax Manager
Position Overview:
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing an organization's tax compliance, tax planning, and tax reporting. They ensure that the company meets all tax obligations and stays in compliance with tax laws. This position also works to optimize tax strategies and identify opportunities to minimize tax liabilities. Excellent organizational and leadership skills are required. This position is an office-based position.
Essential Duties:
Tax Compliance:
* Ensure the organization complies with federal, state, and local tax laws.* Ensures compliance with internal policies.* Assist with policy development and maintenance.* Prepare and file tax returns, including income and property.* Provide support for other departments responsible for preparing and filing sales/use and payroll taxes.* Oversee the tax accounting processes and ensure accurate reporting.* Manage tax audits and correspondence with tax authorities.
Tax Planning:
* Develop tax strategies to reduce tax liabilities and maximize tax savings.* Advise senior management on the impact of tax regulations and strategies.* Research and stay updated on tax laws and regulations that may affect the company.
Financial Reporting:
* Collaborate with accounting teams to ensure accurate tax reporting in financial statements.* Prepare tax provisions for the company's financial statements in compliance with GAAP.* Reconcile tax balances and prepare supporting documentation.* Preparation of financial information on certain companies as assigned.
Tax Strategy & Advisory:
* Provide guidance on the tax implications of various business decisions, such as acquisitions, mergers, and new ventures.* Identify tax risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Leadership & Management:
* Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors when necessary.* Liaise with payroll manager, auditors, for payroll tax audits.* Collaborate with HR and accounting teams.* Maintain accurate records.* Resolve tax-related issues.* Train staff on proper processing of taxes and reporting.* Develops, implements, and maintains standard operating procedures.* Works with HR to develop and maintain position and training manuals.* Employee Development: identifies areas such as software skills, business, and product knowledge, where training and development will enhance the opportunity to meet current and future business needs. Develop on-going/two-way communications with employees, which is designed to foster a positive employee workplace and reduce unwarranted attrition. Responsible for assisting in meeting equal employment opportunity/affirmative action program goals and objectives. Abides by Federal, State, and local laws and regulations as well as Company policies and procedures.* Integrates acquisitions effectively.* Evaluates processes and procedures regularly to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.* Review all current procedures throughout all companies and work with the CFO and company controllers to suggest consistent procedures to be followed. Oversee the implementation of the consistent procedures.* Follows all verbal and written directions.* Willingness and demonstrative ability to take direction from senior accounting team members.* Not afraid to ask questions and request training.* Participates in required meetings.* Demonstrates initiative to improve own knowledge, skills, and abilities.* Dresses in appropriate attire.* Tracks all time worked on timesheet software provided.* Is prepared to answer questions from management and other departments.* Is a productive team member that supports the team by going where needed, assisting where needed, and maintains good working relationships (co-workers, management, and external agencies and vendors).* Ability to handle a great deal of stress over long periods of time.* Acts in a professional manner.* Good attitude and people skills.* Must foster harmonious interactions and relationships and maintain basic standards of civility in the workplace.* Demonstrates company core values, Service, Family, Safety, Integrity, and Pride.* Adheres to the Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality Agreement.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's in Taxation is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Experience:
* Minimum 7-10 years of experience in tax accounting, tax compliance, and tax planning.* Experience in public accounting or corporate tax departments.* Familiarity with tax software and financial accounting systems.
Required Skills:
* Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations.* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.* Strong leadership and communication skills.* Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.* Proficiency in tax software.* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.* Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll and accounting software.* Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well organized.* Must pass criminal background check, credit check, and drug screening.* Must read and speak English.* Complies with all applicable safety, environment, health and waste management policies and procedures.* S. Citizenship, permanent residency, or work visa is required.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to eight hours per day, though possibly more.* Sufficient manual dexterity to successfully use a computer.* Sometimes required to stand and/or walk, and make occasional trips from the office area to other site buildings or down stairs to lower training meeting rooms.
