Prioritizes and performs High Level Disinfection for a variety of Endoscopes, Specialty scopes, and accessories according to manufacturer's IFU and hospital policies and procedures performing both HLD and scope troubleshooting. Ensures scope turnaround times to meet patient care needs based on Operating Room and Endoscopy daily procedural schedule and physicians needs/requests based on extensive knowledge of scopes, departmental procedure policies, turnaround times, inventory levels, and quality assurance. Ensures scope cleaning, disinfection and/or Sterilization Regulatory Requirements are maintained per Hospital, SGNA, AAMI, AORN Guidelines and Procedures. Serves as an endoscopic scope expert mentoring new endoscope processors and serving as a preceptor in the training and development of staff. Completes required disinfection records, QA logs, checklists, and auditing to assure required work practices are maintained to reduce risk of patient/employee cross contamination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Graduate or GED Equivalent

2. Must complete the IAHCSMM course and successfully pass the course.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Two years of instrumentation, equipment, or endoscopy experience.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Previous experience with processing endoscopes or sterile processing experience preferred.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Cleans, decontaminates, and processes reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation, endoscope, and accessories according to manufacturer's instructions (IFU's). Follows departmental policies and procedures, infection control standards, and state/federal regulations. Discerns and distinguishes colors to identify bio burden on instruments, scopes, and equipment. May serve as a preceptor in the training and development of new staff.

2. Operates all sterilization, high-level disinfection, and decontamination equipment, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures safely and efficiently to maintain inventory levels of ENDO scopes, accessories, and supplies. Performs HLD and endoscope/specialty scope troubleshooting.

3. Restocks accurately work areas with scopes, accessories, and supplies. Inventories and maintains adequate levels of disinfectants and scope cleaning solutions utilized in work areas. Plans scope turn around needs according to schedule.

4. Checks the expiration dates and/or hang times of scopes, instrumentation, accessories and supplies.

5. Places or returns scopes, instrumentation, supplies, or equipment to designated storage locations. Maintains egress corridors.

6. Cleans and disinfects equipment, scope containers, and transport bins. Partners with new hires to share knowledge of work functions.

Serves as an expert contact person for questions concerning scope decontamination, HLD, and Sterilization.

7. Records and maintains required records and QA logs such as culture reports, disinfection logs. Performs and maintains records of daily quality assurance checks on endoscopy and specialty scopes/equipment.

8. Utilizes computer software to track scope processing. Shares knowledge of computer software with new hires.

9. Reports and records missing and/or damaged scopes/accessories to leadership team. Handles inventory including repairs and loaners.

10. Performs delegated tasks to assist with ENDO room turnovers and patient care.

11. Assists with patient transfers. Cleans transport devices.

12. Performs designated daily, weekly, and/or monthly cleaning tasks including storerooms, procedural rooms, computers, monitors, warmers, carts, etc.

13. Transports specimens and blood at the request of a licensed care provider, Promptly runs errands as directed.

14. Transports linens, trash, and bio hazardous materials according to established policies wearing PPE and ensuring correct signage is in place prior to transport.

15. Assists in routine unit operations as directed/needed to assure smooth communication and functioning of the unit. When needed, courteously answers telephone and pages in a timely manner, identifying self and unit at all times. Relays accurate telephone, visitor, patient, and healthcare provider messages to appropriate persons in a timely manner.

16. Daily maintains work area in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion. Cleans work area prior to end of shift in preparation for the oncoming shift.

17. Attends regularly scheduled in-services and staff meetings. Participates in training to enhance care and handling of new scopes, instrumentation, equipment, accessories, and supplies. Serves as a competent observer for annual competencies

18. May performs minor clerical duties in the designated area.

2. Must be able to operate computer programs with training such as scope processing software; able to use necessary departmental/hospital software applications.
