Job Description Position: Transformer Winder Status: Hourly // Non-Exempt Reports To: Department Manager > Primary Responsibility: The Winder is responsible for coil winding transformers in a workshop environment. This role requires completing tasks on time and within budget to meet customer satisfaction. > Responsibilities / Duties: Rewind various types of liquid and dry transformers. Operate wire-coiling machines for winding wire or sheet coils. Review work orders and specifications to determine necessary materials. Read and interpret winding data sheets and drawings. Operate winding lathes, punches, and shears. Cut, strip, and bend wire leads as needed. Select and load materials onto equipment. Record production and operational data accurately on specified forms. Identify and report quality concerns to a supervisor. Maintain a clean and organized work area using good housekeeping skills. Inspect electro-mechanical equipment for damage or electrical malfunctions. Use hand tools to attach, alter, and trim materials. Use an overhead crane to load and unload materials from machines. Dismantle or strip damaged or unserviceable electro-mechanical equipment. Prepare reusable parts for rewinding and inspect renewed parts for hidden damage or unusual conditions. Use proper insulating techniques during rewinding. Operate brazing and welding equipment to make brazed connections, fabricate crossovers, and burn leads. Complete required paperwork accurately and on time for each job. Operate specialized repair and testing equipment, including winding machines, insulation resistance testers, cut-off saws, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklifts, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems, and various hand-held tools. Follow all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye and ear protection, steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.). Report all injuries, near misses, and accidents immediately to a supervisor. Perform electrical testing, record connection and winding data on QA forms, order materials, wind random coils, insert finished coils, connect coils, test, tape, and tie finished coils, and prepare for installation. Perform tasks as directed based on departmental needs. Measures of Success: Department efficiency, including low rework and warranty costs, manpower utilization, and work completed within estimated hours. Customer satisfaction and meeting or exceeding customer expectations. On-time completion of projects. Qualifications: High school diploma required. In-depth knowledge of transformer coil winding. Experience in transformers and transformer coil winding is necessary. Hard-working, detail-oriented individual capable of directing personnel positively with effective oral and written communication skills. Must pass all necessary check's and screen's.
