GENERAL SUMMARY:

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up and operating arc welding machine that seam-welds rolled plate to form large diameter spiral fabricated pipe.

(Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to cross training and housekeeping. Responsibilities also include attention to safety according to all safety rules.)•Reviews daily work schedule and specification sheets for current material and process requirements; directs and assists crew members with setup for daily runs.•Analyzes work orders to estimate worker hours and create schedules that meet both internal and external needs.•Interprets specifications, blueprints and job orders to workers and assign duties.•Ensures mill machine is kept running by observing and correcting problems that arise.•Monitors and resolves employee issues; conducts and/or recommends employee discipline if required.•Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.•Ensures that coil and supplies are ready as needed; ensures that coil bay is cleaned and orderly.•Unloads coils from incoming trucks•Monitors training of new operators on department procedures.•Verifies weld tests and coordinate with QA.•Maintains consumables for department.•Collects and organizes all paperwork relative to pipe production on the Mill.•Performs other tasks as instructed by supervision

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience : High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two to four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Industrial equipment experience desired.

Language Skills : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees and members of management.

Mathematical Skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and interpret linear and circumference measurements using tape measures and calipers.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills : Ability to operate machine tool control console, providing input and interpreting readings on computer screen.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : In-house welding certification desired.

Other Skills and Abilities : Ability to read and interpret tape measure and micrometer.

Other Qualifications : Mechanical aptitude required; must pass company test to be considered.
