Scope of the Position
Ventra Salem is seeking a dedicated Safety Coordinator who is passionate about fostering a safe and healthy work environment! In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring employee compliance, effective communication, and the implementation and monitoring of Health & Safety programs. These efforts are vital to protecting the organization’s most valuable assets: its people, equipment, facilities, and reputation. You will also ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and serve as a resource and subject matter expert for employees on occupational health and safety matters.
Responsibilities
- Conduct safety orientations, trainings, job site inspections, and reporting.
- Stay informed of changes to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and regulations; recommend and implement necessary adjustments.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports, and recommendations.
- Monitor employee and subcontractor adherence to Ventra’s safety program.
- Research, plan, organize, and conduct training programs/seminars on topics like Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), CPR/First Aid, and industry-specific safety issues.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret accident data, and review property and injury reports. Administer the workers’ compensation program.
- Carry out additional assignments as directed by supervisors.
- Implement and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
- Assist management in understanding OSHA and environmental regulations and standards, and provide guidance on compliance inspections and citations.
- Provide safety briefings and advice to field personnel.
- Offer counsel to management and employee groups on a wide range of occupational safety issues.
- Write safety standards for electrical utility departments in compliance with industry and government regulations.
- Design and implement safety programs by inspecting equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions.
- Collaborate with Plant Supervisors, Managers, and corporate safety to establish and manage safety and environmental goals and objectives.
- Develop and deliver occupational safety training, modifying programs to meet OHSA requirements at all government levels.
- Coordinate safety inspections, investigations, and activities across departments.
- Analyze accident and injury data, identifying needs for new or modified safety programs.
- Research safety methods and equipment to minimize workplace hazards.
- Advise on improvements in safety tracking and reporting procedures.
- Lead or participate in safety teams alongside technical and management personnel.
- Provide guidance and support to all employees on safety matters.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous workplace conditions and practices; conduct on-site inspections to audit compliance with safety regulations.
- Purchase necessary safety supplies, products, and training materials.
- Assist in managing workers’ compensation claims, filing reports with third-party administrators, and maintaining accident data.
Qualifications
- BS./B.A. degree in related field or;
- Five years safety related work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Safety certification training is considered a strong asset.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and workers’ compensation legislation.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office. Intermediate to advance level in Excel, Word andpowerpoint is a must.
- Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
- Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
- Working towards certification, or already certified, under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations is considered an asset.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
