Hours per Week: 36.00
Schedule: 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM, Every Other Weekend Required. Holidays and on-call as needed.
Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is responsible for evaluating and assisting in the care of critically ill pediatric patients. The nurse will collaborate with physicians to plan, implement, and document patient care, based on individual needs. Duties include conducting initial and ongoing assessments, performing therapeutic interventions, and managing patient care, all in alignment with evidence-based practices.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and assess patient needs, establishing priorities for care through a comprehensive process of planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs, medical diagnosis, and functional health framework.
  • Perform therapeutic nursing interventions and manage overall patient care.
  • Advocate for and utilize evidence-based practices to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Provide patient-centered care in accordance with professional nursing models.
  • Document care following standards of care, patient acuity, and clinical priorities.
  • Serve as a float nurse, providing support across various departments, including Adult Units, Mother/Baby, and Pediatric ED. When assigned to Adult units, the RN will function as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) and not take on a full patient assignment.
  • Support other hospital units as a resource nurse or extra set of hands as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical pediatric experience, with at least 2 years in a PICU setting.
  • Must hold BLS-AHA and PALS-AHA certifications.
  • Ability to float across various units including Mother/Baby and Pediatric ED, and assist Adult units without taking a direct patient assignment.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and on-call as required, particularly when census is low or based on hospital needs.
Education & Certifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing - Required.
  • Current licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing or Compact RN License - Required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - Preferred.
Certifications & Licenses:
  • BLS-AHA certification.
  • PALS-AHA certification.
  • NJ or Compact RN License.
Language:
  • Proficient in English (Speak, Read, Write).
