Ardelle Associates, a veteran-owned company providing Consulting and Support Services for government agencies, is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Civil Paralegal to support the Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) in Albuquerque, NM.

Job Overview

This role involves providing comprehensive paralegal support to Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Program (ACE) throughout the legal process, including case management, research, document organization, trial preparation, and utilizing various software applications for case assistance and presentation purposes.

Responsibilities

The paralegal is responsible for a wide range of duties to support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in various aspects of their work. These duties include seeking and locating information for Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) investigations and litigation by engaging with law enforcement, governmental officials, witnesses, and counsel. The paralegal independently gathers factual material and utilizes automated legal research tools and databases to research legal matters and participate in civil proceedings like electronic discovery. They read, annotate, and summarize documents, files, records, and transcripts, preparing case-summary binders and obtaining financial and statistical information.

Additionally, the paralegal requests, obtains, and reviews agency, court, and public records, analyzes documents, and drafts court filings and memoranda for AUSA review. They must have a working knowledge of state and federal court systems, civil discovery, legal research procedures, and financial fraud investigations. Familiarity with electronic court filing records and databases is essential for providing litigation assistance and technical work. The paralegal organizes and manages large quantities of records, reviews defense document productions, conducts financial analyses, prepares subpoenas, and summarizes responses.

They review various documents using e-discovery tools, assist in preparing for and attending hearings, depositions, and trials, and analyze health care treatment and billing records.

The paralegal also prepares discovery demands, drafts legal memoranda, provides automated litigation support, conducts legal research, manipulates Excel spreadsheets, and demonstrates proficiency in various computer applications. Moreover, they are expected to be familiar with Electronic Storage Information (ESI) tools, eDiscovery procedures, and may occasionally travel for cases, special projects, or training purposes.

  • Capability to assist in hearings, depositions, and trials.
  • Ability to review and summarize health care treatment and billing records.
  • Skill in preparing legal memoranda, documents, and correspondence for review.
  • Proficiency in providing automated litigation support and utilizing various software applications.
  • Competence in performing legal research using tools like Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, CLEAR, and Accurint.
  • Ability to create and manipulate MS Excel spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for cases, special projects, or training.

Qualifications

Two (2) years of education in a related field (e.g. Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, Law)

One (1) full year of specialized experience, including:

  • Working in a law office providing technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation and system capabilities;
  • Organizing and managing case specific discovery;
  • Providing technical litigation support related to affirmative litigation in order to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation, and trial presentation; complex document/discovery analysis;
  • Using automated litigation support technology such as Trial Director, Eclipse, Relativity, Concordance, Case Map, or related programs or platforms to organize voluminous case information for retrieval;
  • Preparing computerized trial presentations, and index digital evidence; use of data analytical tools to manipulate, analyze, and present data;
  • Evaluating and implementing new developments in legal technology; and performing independent legal writing and research

Pay: $25.53 - $30.46 per hour
