Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead Franz Portland's shipping and transportation operation, ensuring timely, accurate and safe delivery of bakery products to sales depots and other FFB divisions.
- Schedule and manage two distinct groups of employees, transportation drivers (Teamsters) and checkers (Bakers Union); including compliance with DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Determine and implement the most efficient use of trucking and labor, limiting expenses while meeting target delivery times.
- Support and maintain a safe work environment by stressing the importance of safe work practices, promoting accident prevention, and resolving potential hazards in a timely manner.
- Ensures work surroundings are maintained in a clean, neat, and safe manner.
- Responsible for ensuring that shipping and transport personnel are trained and follow all accounting and documentation procedures as established by the company.
- Tasked with ensuring that shipping coordinates with production management and production supervisors on any overages, shortages, or product quality issues.
- Ensures all employees are properly trained in all job tasks and the corresponding safety procedures of those tasks.
- Serves as the bridge between sales and the bakery's production team. Providing excellent service to sales by working with production to meet customer demand.
- Addresses personnel issues and operations mistakes, issuing corrective action as needed.
- Investigates transport accidents and ensures that all company and federal policies are followed when an accident occurs.
- Responsible for managing the budget of the distribution department.

- Other duties as assigned.
- Six years or more of success as a Shipping Manager or Shipping Foreperson preferred
- Commitment to safety and proven record of safety success among employees who were under your supervision
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good computer skills with proficiency in Excel
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Previous experience in a union environment is a plus
- Ability to work as a team member essential for success in this role
