The Cook County State's Attorney's Office (CCSAO) is a diverse and inclusive team of dedicated civil professionals who are committed to upholding justice and maintaining safety for the over 5 million residents of Cook County, Illinois.As the second-largest prosecutor's office in the United States, the CCSAO is responsible for prosecuting violations of criminal laws and regulatory statutes, including child support, civil matters, domestic violence, fraud, and immigration services. With over 1,200 employees, including 600+ attorneys, 115 investigators, and 390+ administrative staff, the CCSAO is structured with six bureaus and four independent units to ensure comprehensive coverage in handling diverse legal matters.The Administrative Services Bureau handles all administrative tasks of the State’s Attorney’s Office.The Civil Actions Bureau (CAB) represents Cook County in civil (non-criminal) matters.The Criminal Prosecutions Bureau is the largest bureau in the office, comprised of many divisions and units canvassing the entire county with approximately 500 criminal prosecutors assigned at any given time.The Investigations Bureau consists of more than 120 sworn officers who provide investigative and logistical support to Assistant State’s Attorneys in their preparation and presentation of cases.The purpose and policy of the Juvenile Court Act under Illinois law is to promote a juvenile justice system focused on rehabilitation, not punishment. Prosecutors assigned to the Juvenile Bureau are dedicated to finding the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders.Cases handled by the Special Prosecutions Bureau involve long-term proactive investigations supervised by experienced prosecutors with specialized knowledge and experience.
