The Ophthalmic Technician II performs technical and clerical procedures to assist the Optometrist and Ophthalmologist with patient care in a friendly, caring and professional manner. This position will perform advanced patient care tasks, maintain vision clinic inventory, and order supplies from vendors.Responsibilities:Answers phones and greets patients in a pleasant and professional manner. Calls patients when orders arrive. Schedules follow-up appointments and ophthalmologist procedures. Contacts pharmacy to call in prescriptions.Assists patients with frame and lenses selection. Fills out lab order forms and verifies lab orders and prescriptions (can perform manual and automated lensometry). Obtains base curve measurement of spectacle lenses. Dispenses, adjusts, and repairs eyeglasses. Dispenses contact lenses and trains patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care of lenses.Closes patient's encounters and provides health education that is specific to vision and ocular health.Completes documentation and patient history for patient visits. Performs case history, Visual Acuity, neutralizes patient's glasses before examination, performs Autorefractometer, and ancillary testing (Amslers grid, blood pressure, etc.). Completes all visual field testing (FDT & automated fields). Performs Pachymetry, fundus and anterior segment photography (25- & 50-degree view), and Corneal Topography.Maintains Vision Clinic supplies and inventory, including ordering contact lenses, frames, and consumable supplies. Maintains eye wash station, drug and contact lenses solutions inventory, and monitors expiration dates.Performs eye drop instillation as required.Performs other duties as assigned.Responsible for maintaining and preparing Vision Clinic and equipment, including instrument sterilization, opening clinic (turning on lights and frame warmer, uncovering instruments, removing topical anesthetic from the refrigerator and placing with the other ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, photocopying the daily schedule and placing a copy in the exam room) and closing clinic (preparing exam room and equipment for next day appointments).Requirements:At least 2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician required.Graduation from a course for Optometry Technician or completion of internal training and competencies required.High school diploma or GED Equivalent.Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training required.Rewards:Job type: Regular Full TimeCompetitive Salary with Excellent BenefitsRetirement Plan with Employer MatchPaid Time Off, Extended Sick Leave, and Paid HolidaysMedical/Dental/Vision/FSA/Life InsuranceEmployee Discounts and Wellness ProgramsFHCSD was founded by community activists working towards a common goal: caring, affordable, high-quality medical care for all. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to community medicine and providing culturally competent care to the medically underserved.In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.$23.00 - $29.46If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
