TITLE: ESL Lead TeacherQUALIFICATIONS:

Valid PEL (Public Educator License) with a Self-Contained General Education (K-9) and an ESL (K-9) endorsement.

JOB SUMMARY:

Serves as a knowledgeable professional in the Title III planning and improvement process. Observes, consults with and assists administrators and all teachers. Coaches teachers in appropriate methods of social and academic language instruction. Leads or assists in the planning of programs, coordination of curricular resources, and evaluation effectiveness of programs for English language learners. Provides or assists in the coordination of staff development, consultation, and program development for schools serving English language learners in grades Pre-K through 8th grade. Responsible for assuring students have a rigorous, relevant, free and appropriate educational opportunity regardless of race, language or national origin.

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal, Bilingual Program Director, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and other Central Office Administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary based on Chicago Heights School District 170 and American Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 604, Chicago Heights Council contractual agreement.

Provides assistance to the teaching staff in planning, organizing, and coordinating staff functions, facilities, materials, and equipment purchase and use.Assists site level administrators in supporting, training and coaching certified and classified personnel within the ESL program.Develops/coordinates/determines the delivery/effectiveness of relevant in-service/staff development activities for staff.Develops and/or coordinates effective and inclusive practices in instruction for English Language Learners.Develops and/or coordinates the alignment and articulation of a content-based ESL curriculum.Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of program evaluation.Participates in compliance, focused monitoring and technical assistance reviews.Observes/provides peer assistance for colleagues.Serves as liaison between the school site and the Curriculum Department.Serves on district-level committees and teams.Assists in the coordination of the district’s/school's testing program (WIDA Screener, ACCESS for ELLs, Testing Accommodations). Administer assessments (WIDA Model, ACCESS, IAR, MAP, DRA, etc.)Assists with the selection and support of new ESL staff.Develops/implements/reviews program procedures and policies in accordance with local, state and federal laws and guidelines.Develops data collection systems, monitors data collection, and provides programmatic recommendations based upon results.Maintains knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to English language learners through attendance at meetings, in-service programs, conferences and reading current literature.Participates on school-based LEP Committees and School Improvement Teams as appropriate.Coaches and advises staff on appropriate methods of language instruction, lesson delivery, and program design, scheduling, and service models.Provides direct instruction to EL students.Acts as designated ESL specialist for IEP meetings involving EL students.Monitors students who have exited LEP status for four years.Performs other related duties as assigned.
