Position Description

The Department of Child and Family Studies in the University of South Florida, College of Behavioral and Community Sciences is searching for a Co-Director of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities (FCIC), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The Co-Director will be expected to provide dynamic leadership that will facilitate the growth of extramurally funded research and training initiatives, mentor junior faculty, and guide the UCEDD in providing interdisciplinary pre-service preparation and continuing education, and community services, conducting research, influencing policy and practices, and disseminating information.

This is a tenured or tenure-earning Associate/Full Professor faculty position. Consideration to hire with tenure upon employment will be given to those who meet the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences tenure and promotion guidelines.

This 12-month tenure-earning/tenured position is offered at the rank of associate to full professor. The qualified candidate will have a doctorate in an appropriate discipline related to the support of individuals with developmental disabilities (e.g., psychology, education, special education, communication disorders). The candidate is expected to have professional expertise commensurate with the assumption of a leadership role for the direction of a large interdisciplinary research and training program including substantial experience with directing externally-funded projects, influencing policy and programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, and working in partnership with state agencies and advocacy organizations. This position will provide the day-to-day management of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities and will be involved in developing programs, securing external funds for research and training grants, supervising faculty and project staff, conducting research, teaching at the graduate level, scholarly peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and providing leadership to faculty and staff who are involved in projects affiliated with the FCIC.

Minimum Qualifications :

Doctorate in psychology, special education, child development, or related field.

Must meet University criteria for appointment to rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications :

Extensive experience in program development and leadership of research, technical assistance, or training projects in the area of developmental disabilities.

Evidence of a successful capacity to secure external funding.

Experience developing and maintaining strategic partnerships.

Experience serving as a principal investigator for large/major state or national grants.

Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research.

An understanding of the UCEDD network and its role, purpose, and mission.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including university-level teaching.

Experience providing supervision to students and staff.

Ability to work within a complex and ever-changing environment.

To be considered for the position, candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience related to program and grant management, as well as have a proven record of scholarship, leadership, and teaching. The Co-Director should have a substantial record of research, publications, presentations, and grant writing. It will be expected that the Co-Director continue to engage in these activities upon appointment. Additionally, candidates should share the FCIC’s mission and vision.
