The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for an Assistant Professor (full-time tenure track) to teach undergraduate courses in television studies, open field for Fall 2025. The successful applicant will join a department and a school characterized by a strong sense of collaboration and community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable.
This position aligns with the School of Communication and the Arts’ mission to inspire students to be ethically responsible professionals, with an understanding of sustainable and social responsibilities. We encourage applicants who can demonstrate through their teaching, professional activity, and service, their abilities to contribute to Marist’s identity as an institution that welcomes and embraces diversity.Minimum Qualifications:A Ph.D. or other terminal degree in television studies or related fields by the time of appointmentTwo years of teaching experience at the collegiate levelEvidence of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teachingEssential Functions:Teach current and future television studies courses at the introductory level, such as Introduction to Media Studies, Television Theory and Criticism, as well as upper-level electives such as Current Issues in Television, Topics in Television, among others, with the opportunity to develop additional elective courses/curriculum materials. The ability to teach Art of Film is also desirable. Course load is 21 credits per year (seven courses).Have the opportunity to teach first-year seminars and honors program coursesConduct research and/or creative work in the candidate’s area of expertiseEngage in academic advising, assessment, and service to the institution and to the candidate’s academic discipline/professionSupervise student groupsParticipate in curricular development and planningPreferred Qualifications:Three or more years of teaching at the collegiate level with evidence of effective teachingAn emerging scholarly trajectoryRequired Application Documents:
