November 01, 2024Position Summary:Are you interested in joining a team of experienced full-time faculty members who make up the University of Dayton’s School of Law’s nationally recognized Legal Profession Program? The University of Dayton School of Law invites applications for two Assistant Professors of Lawyering Skills. The focus of the Legal Profession Program is to help students develop essential lawyering skills through a two-semester six-credit-hour sequence during their first year. These courses emphasize legal research, analysis, writing skills, cultural humility, competency, professionalism, and ethics.Responsibilities:Teaching Legal Profession I and II, and other legal research and writing courses related to legal reasoning and critical reading;Providing service to the School of Law and the University;Participating in the community for legal research and writing professionals through attendance or presentations at conferences.The position is non-tenure track with initial one-year appointments and a promotion pathway for long-term appointments after three years of satisfactory service. The position offers comprehensive benefits, including healthcare and tuition benefits.Minimum Qualifications:A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school;Commitment to legal research and writing, including best models and practices for teaching;Prior legal practice experience in the United States.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in legal research and writing teaching;Experience in online education;Engagement with diverse student backgrounds;Commitment to socially and culturally diverse communities;Willingness to engage with Catholic and Marianist educational values;Achievements in law school (e.g., high academic achievement, law review);Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills.Special Instructions to Applicants:Required Documents:Cover Letter addressing qualifications;Document describing commitment to legal research and writing.Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.
