Job Summary:The University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music invites applications for a new full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Music Technology and Artificial Intelligence. We are looking for an innovative researcher and teacher who can connect principles of contemporary music technology with the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence, especially as it relates to creativity and the digital landscape. We welcome applications from both researchers and creative practitioners.

Our new colleague will partner with the music faculty to develop new curriculum in digital music technology for undergraduates, graduates, and non-majors. Through our new strategic plan, we are envisioning recording technology, music production, and artificial intelligence integrated throughout the student experience. We foresee new curricular offerings coming to life including the potential development of new degree programs and multidisciplinary collaborations. Candidates will teach a variety of music technology and music-related AI courses for undergraduate and graduate students.

The successful candidate will participate in efforts to infuse modern technological innovations into the broader music curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate students, in support of our ongoing determination to deliver a discipline-leading 21st century curriculum. We are looking for a colleague whose research and teaching contribute substantially and boldly to one or more of our School of Music strategic priorities: Modern Transformation, New Musics, Music Education, and Maintaining and Enhancing our Core Strengths.

Our new colleague will join a world-class research university deeply investing in Artificial Intelligence through the RISE-AI initiative, designed to bring more than 50 new faculty members to campus in addition to regular hiring initiatives.

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science, that values, prioritizes, and actualizes evidence-based and student-centered teaching and mentoring. They will contribute to an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of the broader community.

Responsibilities:In addition to pursuing a program of research and publication consistent with a tenure-track or tenured appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute vigorously to the School of Music's educational mission, and to assist in recruiting a diverse population of undergraduate majors and graduate students. The candidate appointed to the position will teach both undergraduate and graduate-level courses. The general teaching load is four courses per year, two courses in one semester and two in the other. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring graduate students, serving on degree committees and on other committees at the departmental, college, and university levels. The successful candidate, as a member of the College of L&S, will proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college's commitment to diversity among all aspects of their teaching, research, and service. The selected candidate will participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools and colleges.

Education:Required: PhD in Computer Science or in a closely related area prior to start of appointment.

Qualifications:Candidates for the position must be actively engaged in research or creative activity in music technology and artificial intelligence, broadly construed. The successful candidate will have or show promise for a strong scholarly or creative record to be appointed to a tenure-track position at a top public research university. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with fostering or the ability to foster an inclusive and equity-centered teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental, and research environment where all can thrive.
