POSITION DETAILS:The Department of Public Health at Sacramento State currently serves over 450 graduate, undergraduate and pre-major students. The Department offers a BA in Public Health, a minor in Occupational Health & Safety, and a Master of Public Health. The BS in Public Health offers a broad foundation in public health practice, along with specific preparation in one of three areas of concentration: Community Health Education, Healthcare Administration, and Occupational Health & Safety. The hybrid-format MPH program offers a concentration in Health Promotion, Policy and Leadership, which is designed to connect students with regional partners and prepare future leaders in public health.The Department seeks applicants to teach courses on a part-time basis within these programs. Primary focal areas include Health Promotion and Education, Health Care Administration, and Occupational Health & Safety. Specific course topics include Healthy Lifestyles; Healthy Aging; Emergency Preparedness; Fire Prevention & Safety; Human Ecology and Health; Healthy Psychology; Epidemiology; Research Methods; Community Health; School Health Education; Alcohol & Other Drugs, Epidemiology; Health Care Systems; Health Policy; and Public Health Administration. Instructors are sought for morning, afternoon, and evening class schedules, delivered via in-person, online and hybrid instruction.Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:A master’s degree in a field related to the area of instruction is required to teach undergraduate courses. A doctoral degree in a field related to the area of instruction is required to teach graduate courses.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Prior experience teaching college level courses and previous or current employment in Public Health or related disciplines are preferred.APPLICANT INSTRUCTIONS:New applicants are required
