Position Description
The UC Irvine Department of Otolaryngology seeks a part-time or full-time assistant project scientist with experience in CRISPR to work on inner ear therapeutics in cell culture and animals. The successful candidate should have a background in molecular genetics and will be overseeing the design and implementation of inner ear therapeutics in cell culture and eventually animal models.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Hands-on experience analyzing DNA/RNAs methods or proteins (ELISA, qPCR, ddPCR, flow cytometry, western blot, and other techniques)Proficient in cell-based assays with various readout technologies, such as flow cytometryProficient in molecular biology techniques common in upstream research, including molecular cloning, lentivirus production and titering, processing genomic DNA and RNA for downstream analysisHands-on experience altering the genome of mammalian cells with gene editing and gene delivery techniques using CRISPR-based tools and beyond in viral vectors (AAV, lentiviral, adenovirus, etc) or mRNADevelop and execute assays for characterizing CRISPR delivery constructs such as cell type specificity & expressionExperience in CRISPR work in animals preferred but not requiredExperience with hearing in animals is a plus but not requiredCollaborate across pre-clinical therapeutic groups and externally to drive the advancement of nucleic acid drug componentsCritically evaluate experiment data and communicate scientific findings as verbal presentations and written reportsAid in preparing presentations, reports, and journal/conference publicationsAssist with grant applications as needed
