We are a large ambulatory dental clinic on the University of Virginia grounds with a diverse mission. We serve the needs of medically compromised and special needs pediatric patients and a multi-disciplinary Craniofacial Clinic at our modern new Battle building. Next door at the Jefferson Park Ave location (JPA building) we have a thriving GPR residency program. Our students see UVA employees, provide indigent care, serve the Emergency Department by caring for dental emergencies, provide dental care for highly medically compromised patients, and coordinate OR and ambulatory care for patients in need of oral health optimization before surgeries for cancer and other complex systemic illnesses. As faculty, we mentor and educate four GPR residents, rotate into the OR to care for our most medically compromised patients, and share in an on-call rotation. This position can require extensive periods of time standing in an operating room or sitting delivering dental care. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs. The University of Virginia and the Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery are Equal Opportunity Employers committed to providing employment without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.Salary is negotiable based on experience.Minimum Requirements:DDS or DMD from a CODA accredited dental school.Must have completed an accredited Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) or General Practice Residency (GPR) program, or other recognized Dental specialty.Licensure: Full Virginia Dental LicenseExperience in a hospital-based dental practice, including care for individuals with special healthcare needs, is preferred but not required.Teaching experience is not required but preferred.Working knowledge of Epic Wisdom software, a plus.Confidence performing basic extractions a must, advanced 3rd molars a plus.Sedation experience and certification a plus.Confidence interpreting radiographs and making thoughtful diagnoses.Confidence treatment planning medically compromised patients comprehensively.Confidence performing exceptional crown and bridge restorations.Confidence impressing, setting up, and delivering full and partial dentures.Confidence performing basic non-surgical endodontics.Confidence managing periodontally involved patients, crown lengthening experience a plus.Experience with grafting and dental implants a plus.Must Possess:Ability to equitably share on-call duty with other providers.Ability and desire to be a full partner in the scheduling and management of a thriving GPR hospital-based residency program.Possessing kindness, empathy, positive attitude, and be driven to care for patients that would not receive care anywhere else if not for the mission of the dental clinic.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers and the production of dental services.
