As a Safety Manager, you will be responsible for leading, organizing, and directing a team of safety supervisors and observers to perform safety related duties and training within the vegetation management & tree trimming industry. Duties will be performed within the minimum approach distance of energized utility lines and critical infrastructure. This position is responsible for program management and personnel management.Responsibilities and Requirements:Organize and lead a safety team to complete tasks and program requirementsCreate documents and trainings for company safety programsImplement and lead company safety programsPresent trainings, briefings, and presentationsAssist in training evaluations of crews and field personnelMaintain requirements and certification to work within the minimum approach distance of energized utility linesCreate schedules and manage daily activities of supervised personnelMaintain knowledge of applicable OSHA, ANSI, and vendor safety requirementsConduct investigations (root cause analysis), notifications and create reports of safety incidents or violationsAttend incident, safety and investigation meetings as requiredRepresent the company at meetings, briefs, and conferencesMaintain knowledge of safe tree trimming and vegetation management practicesMaintain knowledge of safe heavy equipment operationsConduct in the field assessments of crews, equipment, and proceduresConduct annual reviews of all safety programs, trainings, and evaluationsResponsible for conflict resolution of supervised personnelConduct risk assessments and apply mitigation techniquesUtilize safety software and programs to report and track compliance with vendor, state, and federal requirementsConduct trend analysis of industry and company safety incidents and violationsProvide weekly and monthly safety reports to company leadership and executivesWork well within a team to complete projects and tasksMust be able to work outdoors, year-round in varying environmentsMust be able to work in, around and amongst poisonous plants and noxious vegetationOther tasks as requiredMinimum Qualifications:Education: High School DiplomaExperience: Greater than 10 years of experience in Utility line clearance and Right-of-Way (ROW) vegetation management operationsISA Certified Arborist or ISA Certified Utility Arborist (ISA)Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP)Valid Driver LicensePreferred Qualifications/Education:OSHA 30Associates DegreeBachelor’s DegreeCommercial Driver License: Class A or BTRAQ CertificationBilingual in Spanish to EnglishKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:Knowledge of tree trimming, vegetation management and forestry industriesKnowledge of tree trimming, climbing, equipment and techniques within utility ROW industryStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to lead teams dispersed across large geographic areasAbility to operate light equipment: chainsaw, blowers, chippers, pole prunersAbility to operate heavy equipmentAbility to utilize technology to complete duties and tasksKnowledge of MS Word, Excel, PDFs, and PowerPointKnowledge of OSHA, ANSI and applicable safety requirements related to tree trimmingKnowledge of OSHA, ANSI and applicable safety requirements related to equipment operationsKnowledge of safety requirements related to commercial on-highway vehiclesAbility to motivate self and othersAbility to think criticallyAbility to resolve conflictsTravel:This position is expected to travel to project sites and locations within California (Operating Area)While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold.
