the application process for external applicants .JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:We are searching for Research Faculty to join our Fluids Research Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. The Department is part of the Fluid Dynamics Division within the Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Office, which has a long, successful history of providing innovative solutions and technology to a range of U.S. Government and Industry sponsors.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.In this position, you will support and conduct basic and applied research in fluid mechanics, investigating a wide range of areas of hydrodynamics interest, including complex single and multi-phase flows, cavitating flows, marine vehicles, turbomachinery, and renewable energy production.Responsibilities Include:Contribute to the design, assembly, and operation of complex test articles and experiments at ARL facilities, government test facilities, and field sitesWork in a team to acquire, analyze and evaluate test data, including hands-on preparation and execution of experimentsAuthor/co-author reports, presentations, and papers and present to technical personnelInteract collaboratively with other engineers, researchers and academic facultyAdditional responsibilities may include:Perform analytical and theoretical studies in the general field of fluid dynamicsUtilize advanced flow diagnostics / measurement techniquesManage projects of small or moderate size and scope in experimental aerodynamics or fluid dynamicsCollaboratively develop, write and submit proposals for funded researchDevelop and maintain external research relationshipsFaculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Minimum requirements include a Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline plus 5 yearsof related experience.This position will be filled as either Research Faculty or a Research and Development Engineer.Required skills and experience includes:Strong background in experimental aerodynamics or fluid mechanicsAbove-average written and verbal communication and presentation skillsAbility to work effectively as part of a project teamPreferred skills and experience include includes:Experience in the design and execution of experiments using wind or water tunnelsExperience with advanced flow diagnostics/measurement techniquesExperience with systems engineeringFamiliarity with solid modeling/CAD systems, MATLAB, or SimulinkYour working location will be

hybrid on-site/work from home , located in State College, PA.
