About the Department/College

The School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems at Northern Arizona University brings together interdisciplinary expertise in cybersecurity engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, eco/environmental informatics, astro informatics, and bio/health informatics. Our core mission is to integrate interdisciplinary developments in scientific and engineering knowledge around computation, data, and systems with traditional disciplines to drive breakthroughs that address key 21st-century challenges.

About the Position

NAU School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) is seeking to fill an Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering position. Exceptional candidates from all relevant areas will be considered, but specific topics of research interest include digital systems design and verification, hardware security, hardware-implemented AI/ML, embedded system design, and embedded metrology.

Responsibilities Include:

Conducting groundbreaking research in Computer Engineering, Digital Systems Design, Hardware Security, Embedded Systems Design, or Embedded Metrology.

Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in SICCS's Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Cyber Security programs.

This position is an

on-site position

which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for this position include an earned doctoral (Ph.D. or Sc.D.) degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or closely related area by August 18, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Digital Systems Design and Verification: Systems-on-Chip design, RTL design and verification, FPGA design and implementation, ASIC design.

Hardware Security: Hardware design for cybersecurity, post-quantum cryptography, and homomorphic encryption.

AI/ML Design and Applications: Hardware-implemented AI/ML, Neuromorphic circuits and systems, Edge AI, AI for Internet-of-Things' Applications.

Embedded system design, embedded metrology.

Strong record of scholarly productivity and promise for future excellence, as evidenced by scholarly publications and research projects.

Demonstrated interest in engaging with and leading collaborative multi- and inter-disciplinary teams.

University-level teaching and mentorship experience.

Excellent communication skills.

Experience effectively working with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience. FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
