The Big Picture

The Peoples Baptist Church of Boston (PBC), organized in 1805, is the oldest African American Baptist Church in New England. PBC seeks a full-time Pastor, Chief Administrator, and Leader divinely called by God to shepherd His people (Jeremiah 3:15). As a Christ-Centered Caring Church, we believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the Church. The candidate who God sends to pastor PBC will exhibit a deep understanding and devotion to the Scriptures and will have a heart for God, His word, and people, serving in a manner consistent with the standards set forth in Scripture for Pastors.

The Church

Peoples Baptist Church is a community of believers who confess Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. We accept the Scriptures as our only authority in the life of the Church and in our private lives. We believe that the Gospel speaks to the human condition and is relevant to every aspect of life. Our mission is to bring people to Christ and into membership in His family, develop them to maturity, and equip them for ministry in the Church and in the world, in order to glorify God.

Our members, representing every sector of life, are drawn from the Greater Boston area. Our worship, which is in the Black religious tradition, is designed to be spiritually uplifting, intellectually challenging, and socially relevant. There are 551 active members on record as of December 31, 2022. We have been serving Boston’s African American community since its organization on Beacon Hill in August 1805, as the first African Baptist Church. Peoples Baptist Church firmly believes that:

Churches grow warmer through fellowship;

Churches grow deeper through discipleship;

Churches grow stronger through worship;

Churches grow broader through ministry;

Churches grow larger through evangelism.
