Safety Managers at Shank Constructors are integral in ensuring everyone goes home safely each day. We hire people passionate about safety who will create, support, and audit our program to reinforce our commitment. Working closely with project teams, Safety Managers develop and implement protocols, conduct training programs, and monitor compliance with regulations and company policies. This role will be based in Minneapolis with travel to construction project sites in MN and IA. The role will be involved in both safety management and field oversight to ensure safety for staff and craft employees, subcontractors, and consultants supporting the project. Shank Constructors self-performs 60% of the project’s scope, with a focus on process piping and concrete. We are looking for this role to focus on the planning aspect of project execution.Location and Business Overview:Shank Constructors is headquartered in Brooklyn Park, MN. We are a major industrial contractor that works on projects that involve construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities. We also have an office in the Des Moines IA market.Responsibilities:Safety Planning and ImplementationLead Project teams in developing and implementing project specific comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to water and wastewater, and others as needed.Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Shank Constructors safety standards.Ensure site safety audits are being conducted by site supervision weekly with documentation and tracking of compliance items.Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.Manage the company’s inventory of personal protective equipment and other safety wearables and equipment.Comply with all company confidential and proprietary information policies.Training and EducationDevelop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.Incident Management and InvestigationLead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents in collaboration with Insurance company. Manage worker compensation program as return to work programs and incident case management.Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.Regulatory ComplianceManage compliance efforts as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to include DOT inspections, mileage logs and other reporting requirements.Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to water and wastewater.Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.Safety Performance MonitoringEstablish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.Qualifications:Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu.Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on water and wastewater. Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.Professional certification in safety management preferred.CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA instructor certifications are preferred.In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and other relevant safety standards.Effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.Strong written and verbal communication skillsGood attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.Strong work ethic – Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.A willingness to travel to project sites is required.
